I have the Canon S30, and I am trying to shoot a waterfall in bright light. I want to blur the warter with a shutter speed of 1/2 second or more. When I use shutter priority to choose this slow shutter speed, of course the shot is overexposed. Is the only answer is to get an adapter for a neutral density filter?

Try using aperture priority setting, ISO50, and set to f8.0 and check what's the shutter speed required for that condition, use manual mode afterward. If it's in the morning or late afternoon, i.e. the light source is not too bright, you should be able to get slower shutter speed, else must use neutral filter. Anybody tried a smooth plastic sheet instead of ND filter?
