just curious, about how far were you from them? i'm about to go out with my 100mm f/2.0 hoping to get some great candids as well.

I was at the other side of the main rd probably 40ft away... in my opinion there is no better Lens for street candids than the 135mm f2 it allows you to be just far enough away to be stealthy with frame filling shots... and the autofocus is lightning fast along with great Low light performance its a winner

I also have the 85mm f1.8 which is also a real nice lens but for street type stuff the 135mm wins hands down... I can take someones picture 95% of the time and they dont even know... yet with the 50mm & 85mm I always get spotted

Thanks... the 135mm is the best lens I have ever owned for sharpness.. some people find that primes are limiting, but the quality of the end product is what I am after,, you will have a very hard time finding anyone saying bad things about this Lens

heres one I took a few months ago

Apologies I must amend what I said earlier
the shot of the old guy was about 40ft away from the camera

the one with the couple - they were about 20ft away and the picture has some cropping of unwanted space

That second one is really good. Sure, she may be giving you the evil eye but still you can see the feeling there.

nicely done

Love the second shot!

Pardon my ignorance:

What make is that 135 F2? is it EF or EF-S?

Also, do you need to ask for permission for those Candids if you're not looking to sell them? I wouldn't think so, but I guess its worth asking before I start taking photos of random people :D

Great shots as always!

Its an EF lens

as for asking permission - I shoot in public places a lot so by Law am not breaking any Laws etc.. if I was on private property I would need the permission from the site along with permission from the subject

The Councils here in the UK are keen on a no photography policy at most council owned places such as swim pools and skating rinks etc

I recently wanted to shoot a diving event at the Big swim pool in our city and was told its not allowed... which kinda winds me up somewhat, as we seem to be banning photography everywhere here these days
