I'm a very amateur photographer, mostly nature and landscape scenes. After doing some research, I just bought a refurbed SX100 from an online store, but it's not working properly (no image in the LCD), so I'll be returning it. Pesky!
In the meantime, I've started to learn more about Canon's release schedule, so it dawned on me that I may want to wait before buying this model, as it may suddenly become outdated... I saw there is a "rumors" folder too, so feel free to move this thread there if needed, but
1. Do you think they will release a newer version of the SX100 this fall?
and
2. If so, do you think you will see the current model sold for less afterwards? Or will it be phased out altogether?
Thanks for sharing your ideas and past experience.... :D

If they release a new model in the line, the SX100 will be discontinued. You might see stores marking them down to clear inventory, but that's about it. As to whether, who knows? It doesn't seem to be proving quite as much success as I'd expect they want.

Hmm, this has me thinking I'll wait until the press releases for the new Canon models come out... although I don't really need the latest greatest thing, I'd hate to see that model's price cut in half, right after buying one!
Also, maybe it's not so groovy to get a model which is discontinued... parts-wise and all. Thanks for the feedback, other thoughts welcome!

Canon Powershot S (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_PowerShot_S) at Wikipedia.
Assuming that it's right (and I have no reason not to believe so), Canon appears to be releasing a PowerShot S series camera about once a year, the only major exception being the S60 and S70 within three monts of each other. The pattern is erratic - sometimes 9 months, other times 15 months - and now that it's August - perhaps they might release an SX camera in November or December? I don't know. The SX is new, there's no defined pattern to it (so far).

I've also been waiting to see whether a new version will come out soon. Since Canon seems to need something to compete with the Panasonic zoom, I'm hoping it doesn't simply disappear without any replacement! Any rumors would be greatly appreciated.

Rumors? Try here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=83). Just remember - they're worth every penny you pay for them!

Rumors? What the heck do ya'll want now? It's pretty much cut and drive to a great camera.
It was more and add on to the A720 than anything else. Everyone complained about the screen sie on the A720 so the SX100 came out with more zoom. Then you had to balance, viewfinder or zoom? If anything a new A720 will come out with 10x zoom and thus we have the same thing Canon has been doing with the SD series. Two of the same models only difference being screen size.

SX110 now on Canon's site. 9mp, 3 inch screen, very similar look. I think it will be a fine replacement (similar to the H10 from the H9 from Sony).
I think a rechargeable battery pack would be a great addition to this camera. Even if it was a 2AA shaped Li Ion battery that was sold separately with a charger, I think it would be met with greater enthusiasm (some people like AA, but many prefer rechargeable, and not simple AA rechargeables.)

Thanks for the headsup, I'll go check that out... whoo hoo, new camera time!

Looks like the SX100is will be replaced by the SX110is, basically an upgrade from 8 megapixels to 10 megapixels.

^10? Try 9 and it still has Digic III. Although it looks slightly sleeker. Shoot, maybe the prices will drop even more and I'll pick one up.
