I just bought a S1 IS and will be using it at a collehe basketball game in a few hours for the first time.

I'll be up in the stands and want to use the zoom with a fast shutter speed.
Can someone suggest what would be the best settings for this type of shooting. I would also like to turn off the flash for good until I want it on again but can't figure out how?? I can disable it but whene the camera turns off and on again it comes back on.

I leave in about an hours so I would appreciate any and all the help I can get.

My guess is the setting would be Mode "P" iso 200 or 400 but not sure what shutter speed...... but willing to take any suggestions from experienced people

Wish me luck

I believe that there is a setting in the function menu to disable the flash - it usually auto activates (when needed ) when the camera is in auto mode. I would use shutter priority mode with a relatively higher speed to freeze the action (maybe 1/100) the higher iso 200 or 400 will compensate for the lower lighting indoors. Try a few settings before the action starts - you can preview the pic and see your results. Also if focusing is a problem (sometimes in lower light with the telephoto fully on at 10X) you can manually set focus at the infinity point.'
Good luck!
