When doing a family portrait is is better to set the camera on one shot or alfocus?
Also should all the focus points be active or just the centre?

Following this, sometimes I take the family laughing and moving around whilst sitting in the same spot..... should I change the setting for this?

one shot, center point, close down aperture till everyone is in focus. if your focus point moves drastically (which it shouldn't in a portrait) just re-focus lock the shot. AI focus/servo is for fast moving objects like birds and cars where you can't physically re-focus fast enough.

AI Focus sucks. Don't use it.

I use AI Servo for portraits & Custom Function 13-1 to put point selection on the Multicontroller (Joystick)

Works fairly well: Simple 2 Light Portrait Set-up (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=128857)
