I would like to know why these two forums are separate from each other?

In the last two weeks I have advertised in the Want to Buy forum for two items. I don't have the time to spend watching the Sell forum continuously, and both items I was looking for went for sale in the sell forum and by the time that i realized it, they were sold.

If these forums were combined and you only checked one both sellers and buyers could stay on top of things a little easier and it would be a more fair anf balanced way of doing things.

I am sure that the powers that be in the infinite wisdom have a reason why this is so, and maybe either one of the mods or someone with inside knowledge could explain the reason in a clear concise way so that it makes sense to me, please.

I believe it's just so that you don't have to sift through the WTB and FS ads. The way it is, you can see all of the items for sale without accidentally clicking a topic called "100-400L IS" and having it be a WTB. It gets annoying. If you're looking for something in particular, just make your WTB ad, and subscribe to the thread. Then, just keep an eye on the FS stuff.

Most of the time you do know if you are selling OR buying, so you read respective ads. No confusion, no prefix hell. Request PM replies and put PM and email notifications on.

I understand Pekka but the point is this if I am looking for something, and the person selling does not bother to look in the want to buy, they still will sell their item but not necessarily give everyone a fair opportunity. Combining the two threads gives everyone a bit better exposure and I do not see how it can cause any problems for you or anyone else.

I think combining both threads would become more tedious for all as one has to take the extra step to sift through which threads are Buy or Sell. I can't see why the present set up is seen as 'unfair' - if you really want something hard enough, you will have to duke it out with other members who are interested in the same thing, You snooze, you lose.

Well some of us have a life that is beyond watching the boards, fine I will close the thread, as always the point has been missed.

Edit: I see I cant even lock the thread.

I apologize for voicing out my opinion. No need to imply that I don't have a life though ;)

The point is that if I am seeking to buy a 300 f/2.8 IS and I conduct a search...I have no desire to have to sift through the posts of the 150 other people looking to buy that lens....while hoping to sort out the posts of the 2 people that actually have one for sale. There is no way that combining WTB and FS is going to be beneficial to anyone.

I'm not sure what having a life has to do with this....but you can't lock the thread because you are not a moderator. However, if you would like the thread locked, you can just click on the little report post triangle to the bottom of the user panel and request it be locked.
