Interesting specimen of a large wasp. It actually hunts cicadas and brings them back (alive) to it's larva in burrows underground. Sorry, I clipped it's wing. I had slight vignetting from my macro lens (Raynox DCR-250).

probably a popular wasp in helping to keep the noise down at night.

I just saw in our state's conservation mag that the females, while they can sting, rarely do. If they weren't just so darn big, I'd be so tempted to try to get one on my finger and take a shot of it. But call me chicken!! Nice shot!

probably a popular wasp in helping to keep the noise down at night. The cicadas are still very noisy around here. But I am sure these insects help control the population.

But call me chicken!! Nice shot!I too, would be chicken to attempt that, even if they didn't sting.

Great shot.

He looks a meanie, if I was a cicada I would be worried; From your avatar it looks like you should be worried about spiders with cameras. Tnx Lester.
