Has anyone got experience of this lens, what are your opinions?

I've owned this lens for a year and use the heck out of it.
It's my "normal" lens and is most often on the body. Images are extremely sharp!!!
Get this lens and you will not be disappointed!

Thanks Doug, read a recent review which gave a thumbs up but I like to hear opinions from users like me here.

I've had this lens for a bit more than a year. It's amazingly sharp and has a very flat field of view - more so than non-macro lenses.
I think it's about the right focal length for a 1.6 crop camera, while the 100 mm macro is a bit too long for steady hand holding. OTOH, the 100 will give you a greater shooting distance for the same magnification, nice if your subject bites or stings...

It's a great lens, super sharp, small and lightweight - can't go wrong IMO.
Only downside is that it's an EF-S lens so won't fit Full-Frame/35mm, but if you don't care about that go for it.

great little lens, works very well for macros, product shots, portraits and landscapes.
If you aren't shooting mainly insects where you might need a longer working distance and don't plan to go full frame - this is a very good lens.

I love this lens and use it a lot for portraits. My only gripe is that since it is a macro lens, the focus mechanism is super sensitive and therefore it sometimes takes a long time to focus (however it's purposely made this way so I really can't gripe about it).

Just bought this lens myself and it is amazing. The results are crystal clear. I have heard some say this is one of Canons sharpest lens' and from what I have seen it certainly lives up to its reputation.
Don't hesitate, just buy.... you're missing out on valuable shooting time....:D

i bought this lens 2 years ago, and i will not sell it until i go exclusively FF in a couple of years or so.
it's extremely sharp, and very well built. this was the only lens i used for a while, because it can make awesome portraits and macros.
you will not regret this lens if you are interested in macros or portraits. :)
