went upto my local airport this morning in the rain and wind, to perhaps get a few Vapour type shots
this Ryanair 737 was the first one that came in for me
It had a LOT of wind shear - the pilot looks as though he is going to be cutting the grass, these pilots must have some balls to be facing the runway at an acute angle
thanks for looking

"Man is that runway short!" "Yeah, but it sure is wide!" ;)
Wow, looks like a scary moment - great capture.

Great photo but I don't think it's "Wind Shear."
"Wind Shear" is a phenomenon where wind direction changes 180 degrees instantaneously. An aircraft experiencing wind shear will instantly lose (or gain) significant airspeed and it usually doesn't involve a large crab angle or other obvious flight path correction (other than an abrupt and 'firewalled throttle' go around...)
This looks much more like a very strong and very perpendicular crosswind.

Looks like pretty much every summer afternoon in Reno. Great shot though!

I don't think he would at that point would he? I thought they used the rudder to kick the tail around just before touching down. It looks like a normal crosswind landing that made for a very cool picture. I wish I could shoot from a location like that.

It's Ryanair.....they removed the rudder to save on costs.........right up there with the removal of the eyebrow windows, window shades and seat recline

Of all the places to build an airport Yeadon has to be the worst. In the winter it's fogbound and the rest of the year it's wet or very windy.
I bet the rosary beads were getting a bashing on that flight. :D

Probably something not as bad as those on the right side. At least the people on the left can see asphalt, the one's on the right are looking at grass.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't it clearly state in the pilot manual on page 3, right after the chapter about take off, that the aircraft is not supposed to be flown sideways under any circumstance let alone during landing?
Good job to any pilots out that that had to do that kind of landing.

Actually it is very common. Its only overly obvious when your taking off and landing. It is kind of the same effect as when you are driving a car accross a hill. You have to steer up the hill a bit to actually go straight. It you have the wheels straight you will actually go down the hill.
If you have a side wind of 30mph. Not only do yo have to go forward. but to stay straight you have to fly sideways at 30 mph. Obviously a plane does not fly very well sideways, so to compensate they have to do as the videos show.

I've been on a plane that landed like that. It was dark, raining heavily and windy and I remember looking out the window and seeing straight down the runway with a great view of the guide lights just as if I was the pilot. There wasn't enough time to think about much of anything except a confused 'eh?' before the plane lurched and landed safely.

There is an airfield in Brazil that has crazy landings like these.

Good old Ryanair. I bet they hit the passengers on that flight with a "Crosswind Surcharge" just to screw a bit more cash out of them.
Do you know they actually charge £4 each way just for the pleasure of paying for your ticket now ?
