My Hoya SMC UV filters have an oily residue I can't get off. I've tried dish soap, lens fluid, alcohol wipes, the lot. i'm going to try metholated spirits next. apparently this is not uncommon with them. Anyhow, my question is, do their SMC circular polarizers have the same oil on them?

Sorry, but I was going to suggest rubbing alcohol but it seems that you already tried it. Strange that it won't take off the residue. Rubbing alcohol should have cleaned it up very nicely.

I only tried alcohol wipes. I'll try straight rubbing alcohol. Thanks!

Try denatured alcohol with lens tissue. It works wonders without leaving a residual.

Try ROR Residual Oil Remover (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/64495-REG/ROR_RO212D_Residual_Oil_Remover_.html), the stuff works great...Jeff

Try to get a fairly high percentage of alcohol. It will have less chance of leaving any residue. Let us know how it

I've been using a product called OFR (oil film remover) for about 20 yrs
and it works like a charm. There's another brand called ROR (residual oil remover) that a friend of mine has used - seems to be the same stuff.
