Previously I shared a littel bit of the trip to Cape St Mary's, and the marvel that is the Gannetts nesting ground in this thread here;
Gannetts at Cape St. Mary's (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=54367)
When we arrived the fog was so thick you could spread it on toast,..
In the fog I could hear the waves on the shore,.. it sounded very distant. But just a few feet off of the path, I found the drop off. The sheeps total lack of fear did not give any indication as to how close to the edge we were.. nor did the distant sound of the waves.
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=y5lhio&outx=600&oq=0&original=1&noresize=1&nostamp=1
The first clearing in fog finally indicated otherwise... the edge was indeed right there,. the waves distant sound was due to the fact that they were 400 feet away.. that is,. 400 feet DOWN!
After hundreds of shots of Ganetts in thick fog,. as the air cleared and visibility grew.. the Sun began to take it's leave, soon depriving us of light. It was time to head back to the car.
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=y5lhrj&outx=600&oq=0&original=1&noresize=1&nostamp=1
The show however,. was not over yet. It seems that Newfoundland had more work in mind for this photographer.
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=y5lhrg&outx=600&oq=0&original=1&noresize=1&nostamp=1
Quite simply, I have not seen anything like it in 38 years. We were all awestruck.

http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=y5lhri&outx=600&oq=0&original=1&noresize=1&nostamp=1
Even our guardians, who had preserved us from taking that step over the foggy edge on the way out to the nesting ground, seemed to be impressed with the display...

Tommy,
Thanks :) Glad you liked them.
Moppie,
It's too bad the sunset diplay didn't have a more "Deep Purple" hue to it.. I would have run with your comparison for sure as far as titling the pics ;)
Marie,
Thank you kindly :) I was a farmer as a young boy too and our sheep were very well respected ;)
The images above don't really illustrate just how littel we could see on our way out to the nesting site,.
Here is one;

At the time of course I had no clue as to the immediate significance of the orange stakes
I was too busy
A: Worrying that the fog would be so thick that the entire trip was a waste as I'd never see a single bird! (Marie you'll have to take the time at some point to thank the Boss I was wrong on that fear)
B: Reveling in the efffects this atmosphere had on everything!
This ones just for Marie

As for I believe .. someday if I make it out to the UK we'll have a pint or two and discuss it at length.. I think we will share more in this aspect of beleif and philosophy than the labels we have for our spiritual differences would at first reveal..

Maz,
The "Sun Explosion",. what a great description :)
Sparker,.
No question.. it was the highlight of the year :)
Thanks Flyfisher,. I think so too.
Scottes,
Yes,. the "Nuke" was just unreal.. this hole day was truly out of a pure fantasy. We arrived at Cape St. Mary's late in the afternoon.. about 4:30 or so,. and had spent the rest of the day exploring an Island,. veiwing a bald eagles nest, witnessing the Capelin run (thise fish pictures) etc... this all in one day.
To have it finally end in such a spectacular display was truly magical. The cherry on top :)
Mills,
It was my pleasure :)
Richard,
Hmmm.. I'll have to do this more often ;)

That is one absolutly stunning sunset.
It's too bad the sunset diplay didn't have a more "Deep Purple" hue to it..
Deep Purple have another appropriate song title too...Fireball.

Amazing colors. I've never seen anything like it.
Can't believe the sheep have no fear and let you get that close. Again, AMAZING!

thank you very much Cyber
these extra photos are beautiful
as are the rest.
I love them all. glad you posted the two men walking there also .
I think about that cliff and I shudder (wow ) as I think I would have gone right over if I had been walking there
that shot of the sheep shows how he had to pull up fast
it's a great shot
(I would think at least a few go over the edge ..sometimes:cry: )
never saw anything like it
how you caught the action in it's legs
I know birds are one thing but this is another and most unusual
the drops of water shot is a beautiful sight
I love it
I love the foggy chilly misty look to everything
thanks for your thoughts on spiritual things Cyber
if you do go to the uk I would have to make a trip because I am across the water from the UK
( the Irish sea is between us) or maybe you could end up over here by mistake seeing as you nearly went over that cliff
has anybody ..ever.. did the guides say? fallen over ?
and were they missed)
we live nearer to the states then my friends in the Uk though:lol:
and I probably would be spiritually dumbstruck to meet anybody
never mind a moderator
but, have no doubts at all
you are a little spark of your maker
as we all are:lol:
~ cherish the thought ~
glad you understand sheep
farming is a great privilege
thanks for sharing and posting the pictures
they are really lovely
