What percentage of photos do you print?

Even more interesting to me was the importance of photos in the emotional well-being of children. I've fallen far being in printing photos. I think this article will spur me into catching up.

So, what percentage of photos do you print?

I print 1% or less of my photos. The decent ones go onto my website, the crap ones get deleted. I'm not so good at deleting though.

Iv printed one for a friend, one which is hanging on my wall, one each for my parents, and 2 others as tests to see how well the local lab woud print digital photos. Iv also had 4 others printed in local papers, 2 in articles, and 2 in a House for sale advert.

Thats 14 of the 5,300odd I currently have on my HDD. or about 0.001% :D

I have 7 months worth of images to go through, but thinking about the previous 6 months... I printed 180 out of about 7,000 frames. So that's about 2.5% - which is actually much higher than I thought. Granted, all of these were printed at 4x6 just to give me the ability to let computer-challenged friends & family see them. My standards were lower since that was my first 6 months in photography, but I've also gotten much better since then. In the last 6 months I probably have another 300 that I'd print at 4x6 just to have hard copies.

Now if I consider the "real keepers" that really deserve to get printed then I probably have about 30 or 40 shots that are worthy of 8x10s and frames, and that's out of my "lifetime" of 14,000 images snapped. That's about 0.2%. Out of those, perhaps 8 or 10 are worthy of 16x20 and frames.

I print small size photographs I make for my parents or other relatives / friends who do not own a computer (yep, there still are people who don't). I cannot compute the excact percentage, but it's very low anyway ;) Then I print enlargements to hang on my walls or to give them as presents - but the percentage of such prints is even lower. The only time I printed a large amount of pictures was bout a year and a half ago - I printed about 460 pictures (13x18cm), in one order ! Those were from our trip to Paris and London - the girlfriend wanted to arrange real photo-albums in order to show them to her friends and relatives.

You might find this hard to beleive but in the last 8 months I've taken over 72,000 pictures on my 10D and have only printed a few.

With my other digi cams I can only assume I've shot over 100,000.

I have two 100 gig hard drives full of just models.
I have a big problem deleting pics - But I'm getting better.

This year I'm planing on printing a whole new portfolio however, so that should up my number by another 0.01%

With film, you have to print to appreciate your photos, hence the 98% rate. With digital your percentage will be much, much less because 1) you take more photos generally than if you were shooting with film, 2) you don't have to print to appreciate your photos.

I have printed approx. 113 photos out of the 21,353 photos I have on my computer. That is 0.5%. I need to get better at deleting, right? :p

The article makes another interesting point that it's often the blurry, less-than-technically-perfect photos that are often the most memorable ones from one's childhood. How often are those pictures deleted in this digital age? I, for one, know I've deleted pictures that I should have kept.

I try and print 10-15%. A good portion of those are pictures my fiancee wants me to print and those we give away to the subjects (family - friends). Some we take to CostCo and some we print at home on our Epson. On average I get 10 good prints for every 100 I take.

I can't say the percentage of which I print pictures, but I do have some printed now and then. My folks thinks it's quite often, but I don't think so. I usually only print the best ones or the ones I'm giving away to friends. I do have my website and everything, but I'm old-fashioned in the sense that I enjoy seeing printed pics. I want to be able to show family and friends my work and I know not everyone have/want to sit in front of a computer. In the future I'd like to print enlargements to put on my wall, but that will be when I have my own place. :-)

0% Haven't printed one so far with my dSLR. With my S230, I've printed 3. That's out of the thousands. lol.

However, I may sign up to the camera club at school, and that gives me access to the school's printer. I hope it's a good one, cos if so... then I'd be printing wayyy more :D

I print all my keepers on 6x4. from photobox
I also print anything I really want to frame on 10x8 or 12x6 (which isn't that many actually)

I junk a lot of shots from the computer.
As a percentage of the total shot my printing is probably low. As a precentage of the keepers it's high.

Up until about 10 years ago I use to have all of my film shots printed, then I realised that for me I didn't care most of the time, so it went to about 50%. I always like the look on the counter person's face when I ask them to just develop the film, no prints needed.

With Digital I am running about 1 in 20 photos gets a print for portfolio and portrait sessions and about 1 in 100 for art and sunset sessions.

Partly true.

With slide film, I naturally get 100% of the film processed into slides. Of the slides, probably 10% get scanned. On the computer, I can appreciate them, and sometimes the images go to CDR for distribution to friends without ever having been printed on paper.

With digital, probably 1-3% get printed on paper.
