Is anyone selling their Canon Digital Rebel XT Photos to mags/pubs?

Is there a general industry standard in regards to number of pixels beginning submitted?

Is there a link to general guidleines?

Thanks!

I've sold everything from 3mp to 16mp. All you need is enough to deliver excellent quality at 8x10 sizes, or 16x20 for double tucks. 6mp will do that easily.

There isn't any standardized pixel count, and each magazine has their own requirements. Some will only use medium format digital cameras of high resolution (Arizona Highways comes to mind), some will accept anything (and it shows ;) ). A Rebel XT will do fine if you use good technique to maximize the image quality (low ISO, good lenses, steady camera, lighting, etc).

In the end, content is king, and always will be. A camera phone is more than acceptable if the image is one of a kind and in high demand! Blurry, grainy, doesn't matter if you can't get the content elsewhere.

Like sfaust said, all depends on the magazine. However, if you are just asking if they will accept it due to size, I'd first question the quality of your shots. If it's an amazing shot that nobody else has, most publications would bend their rules to have it. If it's a plain old everyday shot, or if it looks like an average joe with an SLR shot it, probably isn't publication worthy no matter what the size. In the end, the photo itself is the deciding factor for whether or not it's worthy to publish.

Best way to find out is to call the publication. After that, "send" it, see the reaction. If they accept, get your check, if they don't, check that needs to be improved.

There's no real standard, but there still is "standard" :) Normally something like 2000 to 2500pix on widest side is "standard" for wire and for 99% of newspapers. But of course some newspapers, magazines or agencies have their own requirements.

I use a canon 350D. I have sold a few via my stock agency (not micro-stock). and they were taken with commercial grade lens (the kit lens and sigma 70-300). :)

I've sold pictures to 4 or 5 car magazines all taken with an XT. The resolution is no hinderance. An excellent picture taken with the XT woudl probably be fine on anything up to a cover.

Yes I have seen a professional shoots with a xt and 17-85 in a studio environment and sells her photos to a calendar company (and the photos are quite good).

I've got images from my old 300D (digital rebel) on sale through the stock agency Alamy and have just found out that one was sold to a Russian magazine, so I'm sure that the XT will be more than fine!
