View Full Version : WORLD WIDE PHOTO WEEK: PART 125 -- Isolation

BLS
10th of August 2008 (Sun), 17:26
The theme for this week is "Isolation." Interpret this any way you like, as different and unusual interpretations are always welcome.

Here are the rules:

1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Monday and sunset the following Sunday. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Crummy shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!

2. Post your shots at any time during the week.

3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=194511 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=194511)

An index to previous weeks can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=170603 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=170603)

That's it! Have fun!

I found this subject today and thought he/she fit this weeks theme of "Isolation"

John -- That's the first baby chickadee I've ever seen. Thanks.

For "Isolation" I tried my hand at isolating the subject via shallow DOF.

I planned the shot with only the flower as the subject. Then a bee visited.

In this one my isolation technique was less effective.

Here are some ideas for next week's theme:

1. Daily Ritual
2. Over
3. Street Furniture

What do you think?

BLS,
Good timing with your first photo :)

My vote goes for 2. Over ;)

Nice Flower/Bee isolation Barbara! Can't argue that you didn't isolate that chickadee either John :-)

My grandfathers farm is very isolated

Ok... nothing yet from me, but I usually close the thread :)

I really like the theme of street furniture and Barbara, I think that was an excellent thought. Come on, show us all what kinds of stuff from the living room (or elsewhere) might show up on the street... Sounds like fun to me! Hope to post some Isolation from this week end.

cheers

We have a 3-way tie for next week's theme.
We need a tie breaker.
So, if you're reading this, and you have a preference, share it with us.

John -- Thanks, but the 'good timing' on the bee shot was purely coincidental.

Monty -- REALLY isolated farm. Lots to see there.

Joayne -- Thanks, but I can't take credit for the thought of street furniture. It's not original with me. :( But, like you, I thought it sounded like fun.

Wow Monty! Where is your grandfather's farm? and what do you shoot with?

Hey Crissa - The farm is in South East Montana ~9000 acres (kind of small by Montana standards actually!). These were taken with the 17-40 at 17mm on my 40D.

Gorgeous Monty. I've been a city girl my whole life, land and openness like that is really awe inspiring for me.

monty28428,
Your second photo is great :)

My contributions:

We enjoyed an afternoon at Shaker Woods Festival today, and while there, I found one of the craftsmen isolated in a small shed out behind his sales booth. Isolation seemed to fit.

The second is an old drive in movie screen, half collapsed, isolated out in a remote field.

golfecho -- Fun interpretations!
I keep looking at your Midway drive-in. It looks so familiar to me. Can this be seen from a highway? Maybe I saw it on a trip to your part of PA.

It looks like most people want 'Street Furniture' for our next theme.

So here is the new thread: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=554888

Yes, it can be seen along highway 51, about 5 miles inside of Ohio. It's quite a sight!
