Since my last thread was a complete and utter catastrophe, let's redo this...

More to come... And look, I know these pictures aren't amazing. This was my first wedding, and I was extremely nervous. I don't like posed pictures too much, it's just not my thing. I didn't think I was ready to do something as big and important as a wedding. It was my first try. Like I said, they're crappy. But hey, for working from 3pm-11pm for 50 bucks, they're getting what they paid for. I tired. What else can you do?

They're not bad...I want to see the last thread now. Why are these bad?

They are definitely not "bad" and you deserve some credit for a first wedding. They do look a tad over sharp to my (tired) eyes and they definitely look a little washed out and gray in tone - especially the first two. Probably need a little warming up.

I'm going to let you in on a secret to posing groups. I was taught this a few years ago, and it's helped me to make my standard family poses ten times better. Triangles! If you make the groups heads equal triangles, you can't go wrong. To better understand what I mean, see how the guys seem to be stacked on top of the girls in the last two rows? If you would have shifted them over to be between the people lower then them, the formal would have been perfect. Just a tip from one photographer to the next, hope this helps you for next time!
OH also, I agree with paul on the grayness, add a bit of warmth and they will be great.

group photo:
needs fill light to open up eyes and try to never place a head directly over another. triangles is correct. your eye Will follow a diagonal line and it is considered a line of action. a triangle is made up of two diagonals and a horizontal. a horizontal is considered a line at rest. you may follow it but basically from left to right and on to the next page. the two diagonals keep your eye locked in the triangle.

I think that you are being too hard on yourself, and for fifty bucks, the B&G can't say a word! I agree on the first two needing a bit of color/ pop, but that's super easy to do... as long as you got the shot, and you did!
I really liked the third one, and I thought your conversion was nice. Pat yourself on the back, and take in the things that you learned! That's the point of "the first wedding"... every photographer has to start somewhere!

I don't think these are too bad. Your focus looks pretty good. 1,2, and 4 are all a little green in tone :) The last one also needed a little fill, but it's not bad. Group shots are hard. That flower girl is too cute.

I agree with auroraskye... especially the last photo! Great focus, and every woman knows that feeling of "I wanna see what the back of may hair looks like!"... great capture... I'm sure the bride will love it :)

See? I'm much more photojournalist than fine art photographer... Blah. It sucks.

You say that like it's a bad thing! You capture the moments of the day that tell the story. That's a GOOD thing!

Why is that a bad thing? It's far better than a bunch of fakey posed shots. Quit your whining :P (said in jest)

I think they're fine, especially for your first wedding. I especially like the one of the bride drinking the vat of wine like it's kool aid - "Only 5 more minutes to get this down!!) LOL
:)

haha same thing I thought -- that is a LARGE glass of wine.
Nice job, overall. I think you did fine on the group shot with a bit more processing (fill light, etc). I know how you feel with the candids vs. evil-but-necessary posing.

At least you've had the guts to post your wedding photos on here. I've done four weddings solo so far and haven't posted ANY of my work on here. :) I actually think they got more than what they paid for. You did good work for your first wedding. They got a bargain. Keep it up. :)

For a first you did great! I've only done one, too, and it's harder than it looks! I got a call today from a friend about doing hers on 9/9/09, and could hear her jaw drop when I said "Weddings are a lot of work for the photographer...$1200 base price." My first I did for the plane ticket home and back home (the wedding was one of my best friend's from back home). No more freebies, that crap's hard work!

These are pictures my second shooter took. She didn't have time to edit them, so I had to:

I think the bride and groom will be very happy with what you show them!
Don't be so hard on yourself, you did good. :)
