I'm considering entering four photos into our local fair's photography exhibition. Any and all C&C is warmly welcomed.
The possible categories are Photojournalism, Portrait, Nature, Children, Animals, Creative Color, Monochrome, Photo Travel, Washington, Humor, Human Interest, and General. I can have more than one entry into any one category, but am limited to four entries total.
1. Great Blue Heron Profile (Animals)

Great pictures, I enjoy the 2nd one the most it has a lot of depth. #4 looks good too although the way the bottom of the smog looks makes it look a little unnatural.

Just as long you don't enter the 3rd one under Nature - A golf course should not be counted as nature. Its anti-nature!

Thanks. That shot's uncropped, and at 400mm the telephoto compression tends to make you think the planes are closer to that smoke at the bottom of the frame than they were. That might give the impression you're seeing.

Having worked with some folks at golf courses to get them recognition for their preservation and restoration of nature that wouldn't have occurred in the absence, I can't say that I would always agree with you. You are right to say that, however, as I can't know what perspective the judges may have on the issue. Thanks.

With the older courses I would agree.but the extent the new courses go to to benefit the surrounding critters is amazing..they have to bow to alot of pressure groups nowadays..
But.as the OP mentioned.the judges may not see it as "natural" nature:confused:

I did mean my comments to be more of "its not nature" rather than political or environmental point of view. Strictly speaking, as soon as you do something to it, its no longer nature, but a preserve or a backyard.
