View Full Version : 150 Votes needed, and I could be your next Mod !!

When I approached one of the main honchos for the site and asked to be a Mod, I realized I would have to count with the POTNpular vote.
So please, click on my profile, read some of my older posts, and vote on the poll if you think I can be the next great thing in Moderating (Maybe like that American Idol kid, W. Hung (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTgV1MdGO30)I think) or something like that.
Need at least 150 positives !!!...
Drawbacks??.. Well, with every negative vote I will sink myself deeper into despair, unpopularity, and eventually some second rate forum...sigh. :( (So far I have been offered a mod position at a Paraguayan Poetry Forum, it has like 34 users, but they tell me it's going to be a great hit when the Paraguayan Olympics -Winter Games- are played there this next time around).
So Bring it on, folks !!!

New mods aren't asked. They're hooded and bundled into black A-Team vans in the middle of the night and subjected to water torture until they come to love their captors.
I think it's called the "Helskini Syndrome"....

Gotta love Mod sense of humor.
By the way, this thread was originally designed to stay away from focusing on actual mods, and avoid usual comments, criticisms, or any of that rap. (as it often happens)
I am not sure what's gonna happen now, I just put my nomex suit on, bit of kevlar and kissed the thread goodbye.
(Though I did think the posts were hilarious...someone actually applying for mod voluntarily, and even worse, collecting signatures as if it were some sort of electoral thing).:)
I was actually going for something like this (HERE). (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=332807&highlight=mario+should+be+banned)

I would vote for "Professional Help" except that I am too cheap to kick in with any financial support. That leaves beer as the only viable choice.

Which forum Bill. I also build furniture but really haven't found a forum that I like.
Wood Online (http://woodmagazine.com) which is operated by WOOD magazine. It used to be the biggest and best, by far, but the parent company, Meridith Corp., stepped in to "help" and managed to mess things up with a "one size fits all" approach to managing its seventeen or so various publications by picking a forum software package that was such a bad fit for the needs of the woodworking community there that it all but killed the woodworking forums. They kept one or two paid moderators and the rest of us became "hosts". The WOOD Magazine folks are great, but they have to contend with Meridith that wants to run things the same way that they run Better Homes & Gardens magazine. The one thing that I do like about the WOOD Online forums is the civil behavior. Some of the other woodworking forums seem to be as bad as the kid forums with flame wars going all of the time. I also do woodturning and probably spend most of my online time involved in turning since getting involved in that a few years ago.

And now, an official Update from the Mario Campaign for Mod:
Stockton, CA- (PJtions) The Mario Campaign continues optimistic on their trail to Moderatorship, despite an slow early beginning. At one point the popular vote seemed to indicate that his self nomination to such a specific position was not only untimely, but also out of place.
Though the critics position on this issue seems to be straight forward, an member of the Mario Campagin said -in condition of anonymity- that things will turn around, and with 150 signatures they will make it without problems.
The only official comment from the POTNer's desk was "They will sign, or else".
Next update coming up in a few hours.

I believe him to be a supporter of change. Change that we can all believe in. Unless you believe in the kind of change that only some people believe in. Then he could change to support your brand of change. At least until he needed to change to support my brand of change. Unless my brand of change really meant staying the same.

No matter what anyone tells me, I know you've been staying at a Shao'Lin temple for a while. Your posts lately have been insightful to a point that even if they are funny, they invite to reflection. so whatever Jedi mindtrick you using, works for me. (What I just said is a good thing, by the way)
First, I did not start this thread with a desire to be a Mod. In order to ensure that, I added the Polling feature, because everyone thinks if they got enough signatures they can do anything. (Point in case I once gathered 1000 signatures to petition for the sky to be 18% gray permanently, and thus help in photography purposes, but it did not work either). So, I just started this thread to get folks to come up and not talk about me, but rather spin off different subjects, some of the friendliness and randomness that I really enjoy about this forum.
Second, it was NOT to poke fun at the mods. I had a chance to hang out personally with a couple of them not long ago, and their job is really demanding, and they put with a lot more crap than I thought they did. All to keep POTN a better place for you and me (No, I am not sticking my nose up anyone's arse, just telling it like it is, for once).
And third, me as a mod would probably be an Alice in Wonderland version of the Soup Naxi. I am a stickler for rules, and I love to start things -like this thread- and see where it goes. But I get aggravated easily at a handful of things: Excessive Nikon talk on these forums, Personal references ("You are wasting your time with photography, I can crap prettier than this pic") as an example.
So all in all, I am not sure I would be a good Mod. It's weird. Keeping the rules and laws are as vital as breathing for me, yet I am an out of the box thinker. Can that coexist inside one person at once? It might explain my weird nature.
And for final clarification, on the drive back from the POTN meeting, I remembered some of the Moderating stories I had heard over the weekend, and kept thinking how I would have dealt with that. Which is ultimately, why I probably posted this thread. Can you imagine me as a mod?... He he.. :)

I had the displeasure of shutting down the very first thread ever closed on that board.
The first rule was no political discussions. One of the other rules was that you treat all of the other members with respect.
It was a gas price thread, and it turned political, as well as people attacking others for what they chose to drive, etc.
I warned them, and they didn't listen. So I closed the thread.
I think they've gotten over it. They still invite me to all of the meet and greets. :D

Good! Because poking fun at some of them can be an unquieting experience.
Granted, most of them have a good sense of humor, and can take it as well as dish it out. Some others, however (and I shan't name names, but you, I, and many others know who you are), have all the charm of the Wiked Witch of the West. Mess with them, even slightly, and they'll get you, and your little dog, too!
And third, me as a mod would probably be an Alice in Wonderland version of the Soup Naxi. I am a stickler for rules, and I love to start things -like this thread- and see where it goes. Well, not all people should be mods. (And not all those who are mods should be either!)
The powers that be wisely know that I should never, ever, be a mod. Or for that matter, ever placed in charge of anything, no matter how trivial.
And for final clarification, on the drive back from the POTN meeting, I remembered some of the Moderating stories I had heard over the weekend, and kept thinking how I would have dealt with that. Which is ultimately, why I probably posted this thread. Can you imagine me as a mod?... He he.. :)

Bummer! I have a list of those who shouldn't be but are ... I was hoping you'd reveal it for me! I tried to put them on my Ignore list but it didn't work. But even the ones who are but shouldn't be do a lot of dirty work and should be appreciated for their contribution more than cited for their retribution.
I had three of them to my house this past weekend (and one wanna' be.) Last year I had even more. I attract them like flies. Fortunately (more or less) I have more gear than most of them and that seems to impress them enough to get me left alone. I have never been banned (and have deserved it often.) And I am more impressed with the recent lot than most of the older generation.
Now, if they can just resolve this toilet seat issue amongst them I think things will work out ... more or less ... but you never know.
