The Tamron 28-75 2.8 after a little research and budget considerations. Then the 50mm 1.8, then the 100mm 2.8 Macro, then the 100-400L IS. Next is the 300mm 2.8 IS (things just keep getting more expensive!)

Had 50mm 1.4 then bought the 100 - 400L IS and then bought the 20D

Then I bought 24-70L and then the 16 - 35L

The 70/200 F/4 L

It's the best lens I have ever used.

FAST focusing/fairly lightweight; I handhold it all day long w/o a problem.

I do live in San Diego; so I have a lot of Sunshine; but I have used it at night and in anything more brightly lit than the field where I play softball; it kicks serious @$$

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. Actually I came to the store prepared to buy 10D body with the Canon 28-135 IS lens, but the seller convinced me to try the Tamron and said that he would exchange it for the Canon if I wouldn't be happy with it.

50mm f/1.8 probably the best value lens on the market.

The 17-85 IS USM came with the camera kit. But the one after that was the 100-400 L IS USM. I love it. Next is the Canon 1.4 TC. I would also like a 50 f1.4. Ah, the list gets longer every day... ;-)

I bought the kit, it came with the 18-55mm. It's pretty crummy IMHO... f/5.6 nowhere near wide enough for me. I do use it for the wide angle though.

My dad already had an EF35-105mm. f/3.5-4.5. Pretty nifty. However, I've already placed an order for the EF50mm f/1.8 :D

18-55mm (came as kit) - 17-40mm f/4L - 70-200mm f/4L - 50mm f/1.4 - ?(most likely 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM ) is my list.

I bought the Sigma 18-125 3 weeks BEFORE the 20D was available. Big mistake....

Luckily I got a 20D kit so used the 18-55 until I also got a 28-135.

EXchanged the 18-125 for a 17-40L.

2. 75-300 IS………..OK
3. 100-400L IS…….Very Good

Oh lets see here...
I had 2 sigma lenses from the EOS 50E I had bought in Dec, 99. They are the 28-80 and 70-300mm no frills lenses. The 70-300 was sold and made way for the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX. That lead to the Canon 16-35mm F2.8L, then the Canon 24-70mm F2.8L and then the Canon 50mm F1.8 and 1.4x tc for the Sigma.

The 28-80mm doesn't get used at all, lest I want to be reminded how much it sucks compared to the other lenses I have.

1½ years ago... The new Digital Rebel's were just hitting the stores...
EFS18-55 Kit lens
EF50mm/f1.8
EF55-200MKII The other "kit" lens Canon introduced at the same time as the Drebel... It's only about $200 and it is not L glass but you can see that it's found a following here (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1029&message=10967028)... Look at Adam-T's test photo's with 100% pixel views of his images... Impressed? Me too, but I've always been happy with that lens... I still have it.
Lenses? Now? Don't get me started...

I know some people dont like this lens but my copy is nice and sharp.

Next up was the 70-200 2.8L IS along with a 1.4 II extender then a 100 2.8 Macro.

I'm thinking of adding the 24-70 2.8L before the rebate ends.

I predicting there will also be a 50 1.4 in my future.

I was so dang excited to have a 10D body that I went to one of the local camera stores and bought a couple of "affordable" lenses. The 24-85 and the 100-300. Both were reasonable lenses but certainly not as sharp as I wanted. From there I went to L and haven't looked back since.

JeffS
23rd of January 2005 (Sun), 19:43
I went to DSLR with the 10D from my G5 point-and-shoot, and everywhere I went people said "get good glass." So I jumped in headfirst with the 24-70mm f/2.8 L and had no regrets.

1. 17-40 L
2. 28-135 IS
3. 75-300 IS

I bought these at the same time I bought my 10D. I use the 28-135 most of the time and reserve the 17-40 for specail shots. I don't use the 75-300 alot, but I took it to the park and got some great shots of the kids playing. I have also ordered a 50 mkII 1.8. I think I am going to take it to Disney World. I wanted to get something fast for indoor shots. I would like to buy a couple more L series lenses, but I have spent about all I can afford for now. Photography is just a hobby for me and I don't have any plans of taking it any further. I learned the hard way that when you take something you love and try to make money from it, you end up miserable. Good luck in whatever you are doing.

My first lens other than the 18-55 that came with the Digital Rebel was a Canon 28-135 USM IS ( well first one I actually kept, I bought a Quantary 70-300 'high speed autofocus' lens, absolutly hated it returned it, spent the extra money towards the 28-135 )

pierrot

My 20D came with the 18-55, a honest though not outsatnding lens.
I already had a 28-70mm and 70-300mm from my EOS5.

Additional purchases then were:
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5

Both are really worth every cent :
the 1st one so quick and crisp it would deserve a "L" rating,
the 2nd one really stunning as it features real wide angle on my 20D. Amazing, not a quick one, but sharp.

I started off buying the camera. After a while getting familiar with the camera I realised the bundled lens had some limitations when it came to zooming. After alot of research and looking at different lenses I decided to go with a compact type with good zoom. So my first lens I bought after the one that came with the camera was a:

EF 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM

then I followed up with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Next on my list is the 100mm macro lens I think, but that will have to wait a little while. :)

When I bought my 10D in October 2003, I already had an EOS 30 (Elan 7E) with Canon EF 28-135 IS USM. The first lens I bought after the 10D was the Canon EF 17-40 f/4 L USM, in January 2004. After that the Canon EF 70-300 DO IS USM (June 2004), the EF 50 f/1.8 II (September 2004), EF 100 f/2.8 Macro (November 2004).

Now I'm done buying lenses for a while.... :)

Sigma 18-125mm DC.

This lens paired very well with my current line-up of lenses from my Elan and gave me a great general use lens. Way better then the 18-55 EFS IMO. It's no L but a huge value for the dollar in my collection. I really love the build of the lens, much nicer then my USM Canon's for the what you pay. But clearly no L.

Interesting thread...

I had two old lenses from my EOS 50 film camera days - 70-300 and 28-80 (I think it is..)

I got the kit lens with the 300D purchase (couldn't buy it without in Australia), then bought:
. 50mm f1.8
. EF-S 10-22mm

Wish list:
. 100-400L IS
. 24-80L

Well, it's not a "lens" as such, but it was an adaptor for my 4 Nikkor primes!:D:D:D;)

28-135 IS. Excellent lens for a non-'L'. Greate range for DSLR and the IS was a big plus. Only $500 at the time. Smaller than most of the 'L' and lighter as well.

FIrst and only glass so far with my 20D -> 24-70/2.8L.

Up next:
EF-S 10-22 or 17-40/4L

Don't see too many people with the 24-70 pairing up with either of these WA. They are both around the same price and one is an EF-S with better practical range and one "L" with optimum quality. Which one is the better choice??

About a month ago I didn't know what an Fstop was. I had an A80 for a year then decided to play with m mode a lil and got frustraighted as I was always sayin what if I had a faster lens, I cant focus through this lcd, This iso sucks! So after doing my recearch I figured if your gona do it do it right. I never even held an slr before my purchase but reading stuff here and after debating if I was interested in photography enough to justify price, I knew exactly what I wanted/needed. Went with 20D , 10-22 , 24-70L , 70-200L IS battery grip to make sure I had a good grasp, 580ex,off shoe cord, omni bounce defuser, remote switch cord, manfrottto tripod/monopod and an extra mounting plate. Everything fits nicely in the lowe pro toploader with lens cases on the sides. Buying everything at once got me a price discount I was happy with. I use every item I bought every day I shoot and havn't felt that I made any bad choices. If I had to have only bought one lens at the start I think it would have to be the 100-400L or 50 1.8 both come on 70 bucks...
I know it sounds extreme for a begginer but I think in the camera field you cant sacrifice what you need because it costs alot. Everyone should have a cheap P&S but when it comes to SLR I would rather save money an not have a camera till I had enough to do it right, then spend an inbetween amount (still lots) of money and be frustraighted.

I purchased 20D body on Jan 30th '05,
Ordered a 2nd hand 50mm 1.8 that week (no one stocked a new one!)
And the weekend following, Feb 5th, bought the 17-40L + Sigma 70-300mm Super Macro II, just in time to shoot my girlfriends 21st of that night! :)
