Hello I just bought a 300D and am planning to do the wonderful/money saving hack...

In the next coming months im traveling MULTIPLE times...
- Daytona 500 Nascar race
- Spring Break in Ft. Walton Beach (on the beach)
- Trip to Peru with school
- Europe over the summer
- Texas for a car show

I also photograph high school sports (indoor and outdoor), band practices, school concerts, and I Love taking pictures of landscapes.

So! to the question...I am wondering what lense/lenses i should get for these purposes? I can afford the 70-200mm L f/4 lense. But most of the higher priced L lenses are out of my range...
Note: i do plan on getting some of the lenses used.

Thanks for the help.

The 70-200 f/4 is a great lens. Sure faster lenses and IS is always good, but if you can't afford more you can't afford more. I own the f/4 and love it.

However, some others you could consider are....
The 75-300 IS. Sure the optics aren't up to the 70-200 but the extra range is nice (if the weakest part the the lenses range) and the IS is a big deal. This lens will beat the 70-200 at distant and stationary targets, but get beat otherwise.
The 85 f/1.8 and 200 f/2.8. May be outside your budget but if not would be a great combo. You gain speed and optics that will beat any zoom. Of course zoom is what you loose as you'll be carrying two lenses and have to swap.

For the wider stuff you need just stick to the 18-55 for now. If you want a decent kick there the Sigma 20 f/1.8 is about the best way to go unless you can also afford to step up to a 17-40.

So you live in Canada I presume since you bought a 300D? 300D is sold internationally. It's called Digital Rebel in the USA.

It's called Digital Rebel here too.
Anyway, the 70-200mm f/4L is recommended everywhere. It's gotta be good :D However, if you've got some extra cash lying around, it might be a good idea to pick up the 50mm f/1.8. I have one coming in the mail. It's supposed to be an awesome indoor/low light/no flash lens. Excellent for portraiture too.

Another lens you may consider is the 200mm f/2.8L. That's the one I want next. It doesn't have the versatility of the 70-200 f/4 but it's way faster. Depends what's more important to you.

//edit: Price difference is about $100...

You might want to consider the Sigma 100-300mm f4 EX IF HSM, its a very sharp lens and for sports the 300mm end is very nice to have. You can get one for about $100.00 more than the 70-200. http://covingtonsportsphoto.atspace.com/ Most (90%) of the shots on my site are with this lens

It's kinda hard to suggest which equipment to get without knowing the budget first ... Also - did you get the camera with the kit lens ?
