Can I connect my 550EX flash to my 10D via off-camera-cord 2, whilst they are on one side of a macro flash bracket and expect a 420EX, on the same bracket (but on the other side from the 10D obviously), to operate properly as the slave to the 550EX?

Opinions please would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Barry

Since the off-camera-cord-2 is supposed to give you full ETTL operation of the 550EX, you should be able to fire the 420EX as a slave. However, since I haven't tried this setup myself, I won't stake my life on it.

As long as the red plastic covering the AF Assist lamp on the 420EX is facing he 550EX, it should work.

... and if it's not facing the master flash, a small piece of white card taped at +/- 45° in front of the sensor will do, too.

Since the head on the 420 rotates, you can angle things so the body of the 420 points toward the 550 while the head points toward your subject.

Thanks Jon - just read this in the 550EX manual.
