these two images are some of the first shots with my new 40D.... haven't messed with the settings as yet .... also this was my first attempt to shoot a music event.... not sure if colour works better than b&w... let me know what you think...Please

Between those two pics, the b&w looks much better, although a bit too dark at the bottom. You lose her pants. The white balance on the first pic needs to be adjusted. The skin is too orange/yellow. If you shoot in RAW mode it is easy to fix. The software that came with the camera (Digital Photo Professional) will allow you to edit the raw and jpg files, and something like Photoshop CS2 or 3 to refine them further.
Digital photography is a lot of fun, but it likes to steal money from my wallet and keep me from sleeping. :D

thanks for taking the time to comment...... the b&w conversion was done is cs3 (yeah i am a little heavy handed on the contrast :p ) and working with orange and purple lights was hard... thanks for the pointers though.. i will post a couple of others if that's o.k.

I like the B&W version (don't mind the contrast I think), but probably would crop a bit closer to loose the headstock in the left edge.
