So, here I am shooting my son's football game with my 300mm f/4L. I turn around and my daughter is standing about 6 feet away from me, smiling for the camera for a change, so I figure this is my only chance. I can't switch lenses now. I think it came out pretty good considering. I just wish I didn't cut off the top of her head, but that's what 300mm will do to you when you are standing against a fence from 6 feet away. What do you think?

I like the shot... I think you captured the essence of the moment. I think that is an amazing/honest smile, which you can rarely hope for when they are ready for a shot.

What do you think?
I'm thinking that 300mm F/4 makes a BEAUTIFUL portrait lens for head shots from 10 to 15 feet away.
I also think this is a pretty nice catch, albeit a skosh tight. :D

I don't know, the tightness of the shot is kinda cool, I think. Nice shot, and looks like a very nice lens as well

lovely photo. I agree with the others, I like the framing. Your daughter has great eyes! You should be very proud.

Really too bad you cut the top of the head... also, there is some blur because of camera shake, 1/320s is not fast enough... you should have knocked up ISO a bit.

Gosh, she's gorgeous. I only pray my baby girl turns out ugly, I couldn't stand the stress...:p
Beautiful photo, no ifs or buts.

Great shot - in the album for sure. Did you daughter like it?

Great shot, great exposure - could a vertical shot have solved the problem?
Have Fun,

Excellent - maybe a portrait shot would have alleviated the cropping ... but hey hindsight is 20/20. Least you got a shot! :)

I'm a fan of the cropping - or at least I do a fair amount the same way. Pretty girl, good capture.

The eyes are so powerful that the top of the head is hardly noticeable.

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone. I think I'll try some more tight shots like this, but like rkoshy said, it's tough to get that honest smile, and that's what I liked best about this shot.

You never know, you just feel the right moment.
Lens ? Just a crop between you and the world...
And you got it. Very nice portrait pcasciola.

You did capture a great smile. I love this lens for portraits. Backgrounds don't get much better than that either. Good job!

Very well done. You caught a nice moment and my eyes are drawn to hers (making the cropping irrelevant). Lovely girl.

I think the crop on this photo is good. I would not change anything on this. Well done!
