Anyone have this card??

I just got it... After looking at the RG CF databse. It shows it to be just a tad bit slower than my SanDiskUltra II 512gb (Jpg 4.947MB/sec -|- Raw 5.590MB/sec)

OK I havent REALLY sat down and done any technical comparasats but this card seems to be slower than even my regular old 512 Kingston card.

Anyone use 2gb cards? Thoughts?

Ive got the 1gb one and its very fast, what Camera are you using it in ? If your using either a 300D or 10D the Kingston card may well be at the limit of the Cameras capabilities so you wont see any improvement using a faster card like the Lexar, if your using a 20D or one of the 1D family of cameras then the faster the card the better.

My brother-in-law got the 2GB 80x Lexar, and he has the 20D. To say the least, that card is super fast in that camera. Way faster than any of the cards that I have.

I have the 2GB 80x Lexar with my 20D as well at it works very fast. I haven't had any problems.

I have the 80x 2G lexar as well.
Did you buy the card new?
The reason I ask is there are two versions out there. The first virson was slower even though they are both labled exactly the same way. So if you did not buy the card new there is a chance that you have the version one.
Remember seeing on Rob Galbraith's site somewhere, think in the 20D specs, how to tell the two apart by SN.

I have the 2GB Lexar 80X. I have not noticed anything related to speed with it. However, I can't really see any difference with the faster 1 GB Sandisk Extreme 111 which is measurably faster in the 20D.

Wou! This is the topic I am looking for!!! :)

I have 20D. Could you tell me which card is faster: Sandisk Ultra II 1 Gb or Lexar 80x 1 Gb?

I have read http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007 this benchmarks.
But I have heard that Sandisk CF card have high latency. So, probably, Lexar will give us better Random Access performance ...

What do you prefer: Sandisk Ultra II or Lexar 80x?
(I don't ask about Sandisk Extreme because of price :))

Just kidding, I'm using a 20d. I actually just got this card new at sammys a couple weeks ago. and here is where I noticed the performance differences (they don’t actually “hinder” my shooting but for one of the top 8 fastest cards on RG’s DB I would have expected better)

p.s. This is compared to my SanDisk 512 Extreme II & Generic Kingston 512mb

Concerns:
----------
When shooting RAW and multiple JPGs I notice the "Red Light" flickering a lot longer than with either of these two cards

Transferring to the computer via my USB2.0 reader takes about 20-40% longer than even my Kingston

I doubt will ever fill this buffer, but in JPG L/high the Lexar seems to cap out at about 5 frames before the Kingston would and about 15 frames before the SanDisk would
----------
.
.

Pros
----------
When chimping, I notice that thumbnail preview is blazing fast, about exactly the same as the Extreme II and waaay faster than the Kingston
----------

The trade off of having 2gb.... I'm not complaining, however it doesn't seem to come close to the performance quoted in RB's CF/DB for the 20d

just my $.00002

Although the Lexar boasts an 80x performance rating (relative to a x1 CD drive; 150 Kb/sec), that relies on Write Acceleration, a Lexar proprietary technology, which Canon hasn't licensed. Nikon has, so if you were using a D70 you'd have a chance at seeing the benefit, but you'll see less speed from this card in a Canon, which accounts for the marginal differences between it and SanDisk Ultra II in Rob Galbraith's tests.

I had an original Lexar 1gb type II card that was slow in my 10d and slow in my 20d. My wife bought me the Lexar 1 gb 80x and it was notably faster. I bought the Sandisk Extreme III 1 gb card and it was faster than the Lexar 80x, especially when it comes to reviewing pictures which is where I was looking for the speed improvement.

Now that I am shooting RAW and JPEG together, however, I find the 1gb too small and wish I got the 2gb.

I did buy the 2GB 80X lexar new. It is the second version of the card. If you look on the side of your card opposite the input side, you will see a serial number. If the last four digits are A4B6 then you have the 2nd edition.

Nice thread . . . but now I know I have old Lexar cards, lol. Both my 1 & 2 Gig cards are of the 'old' type. I am in the market for new and or larger cards . . . so perhaps Scandisc will be the card of choice from now on for me.
