This is my first attempt with my 100.2.8 . Quite windy & rainy,
Shot in manual .:) Hand held.

not a bad start, considering the wind and such.
looks like it might be a type of hoverfly . . hard to tell though.
welcome to macro BTW.
a good idea for shooting insects and spiders, is to try to get the eyes in focus, and then attempt to leave some space in the direction which the subject is looking.
im no expert...by any means though..lol.

Good tips from John above. Also looks like your DoF is pretty small, but can't see your EXIF data. What aperture were you using? Try closing it down to f/11 or so. Might need to up the ISO a bit to compensate. Good start! Welcome to the addiction :)

HIJohn & Troy. Yes it was a hover fly. Not much else in the garden at the moment, weather is not to good .
It was f/2.8, on both. Troy.

As stated above, your depth of field is really shallow in these images, almost to the point where the subject is very hard to make out.
In the future, try a longer depth of field.
