hello everyone,

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Jim Irving, of the New Brunswick based Irving Family, let me photograph him. I only had a split second as it was 10 degrees below zero. The sun was also very harsh but I am really happy to include this capture in my historical portfolio. The Irvings own shipyards, sawmills, oil refineries and much more. Jim's grandfather, the late K.C. Irving started from scratch at the turn of the century.

Do you think the b&w works?

Thanks,

yeah, looks ok, but you could run a grain through it if you were wanting that effect. maybe you could play with the contrast? Otherwise, not a bad capture for spur of the moment. Harsh light is a b*tch.

Harsh light or not, the colour shot stands out.

As a documentary shot it is fine, either one. As portraiture, it should have been shade or diffused or reflected light. I'm sure he doesn't squint like this all the time. But given the conditions you did well. :)

Not only a good shot under the circumstances, but you must be proud of the moment. Seems you have had a few great experiences recently.

I prefer the b&w.
How did you meet him?

I like the color version. If you want B&W go for a high contrast one.
