Unfortunately, didn't have my macro lens, but for the cheapy 75-300 III I think these came out alright!

I just found these Sand Wasps today, plan to try to get back tomorrow with the macro lens. If you look careful at the first Sand Wasp you can see the sand he is throwing behind him.

Thanks for looking all.

Very nice! Are sand wasps aggressive?

Very nice! Are sand wasps aggressive?

From what I saw today, and have seen in the past before I was into photography. I would say not really. I was only about 4 feet from them, and walked closer at times and they seemed to just carry on their way digging holes, etc.

I guess I will have a better answer for ya tomorrow if I get a chance to head back out there.

Nice shots, the two wasps are so good looking :). Like the sandstorm in #1 and the blue wasp in #3

Well, I went out yesterday with a twofold agenda. Getting a clean shot of a new (and seems from what I have read rare) Orange Bishop at the wetlands (which I did manage to get). And #2 to get a closer and some better shots of the sand wasps.

Bottom line, for the Sand wasps. They still didn't seem aggressive toward me. But they also have all their burrows made. So they are more skittish and more active. With the lens setup (50mm+hoya close ups) I have, I couldn't get a good shot of them. I have to be too close (2.5"). They just take off every time I even try to move the camera.

Maybe in the future if I see some more building new homes!!

And thanks all so much for the cool and kind comments!!
