If you're shooting in RAW, its very easy to do in Photoshop's RAW editor

I don't know how in CS2, but if you are anywhere near a bookstore, get Scott Kelby's book and you're good.

I prefer to use a curves adjustment layer with a mask.
Be carefull that you darken the edges, instad of making them gray. (there is a difference)

Depends on what you are going to do to the individual image. CS3 for brute force and ultimate control. OnOne's Focal Point is nice too.

Im pretty sure for an easy way is to just make a circle selection, feather, inverse then do a levels adjustment to make it darker. Ghetto way I guess :D

or instead of a levels adjustment, you can create a new layer, fill the selection with whatever color you want (i usually use black or white) then you can adjust opacity to your liking.

I prefer the layer mask - adjustment layer thingy.
