I got my AlienBee CyberSync Trigger and 3 Receivers today and i must say these things are FTW x 2!!!!

The range is insane, the build qaulity is amazing, they work amazing, no misfires so far either. They come with batteries, sync cables and adapters to get going right out of the box/

I got 3 receivers, one for each of my flashes. 2 Sunpak 383s and 1 Canon 430ex.

I did have to buy one of these for my Canon flash tho http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/421306-REG/Paramount_PMMHSF1_Miniphone_to_Female_Hot.html

Then I went to RadioShack and picked up two of these for $5.99 each http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062470&cp to connect to the sync cable they came with so I could plug it into my Sunpaks.

Anyone who is questioning themselves to buy these, well DONT!!!

Thanks for sharing your findings. I'm ordering a few AB800 next week with the Vagabond II and was hoping these were good, glad to hear they're high quality! woo

So you plugged in a stereo jack and it worked without any problems?
I was under the impression that Sunpak had a ever so slightly longer miniphone mono jack. (based on what i see from comments in the forum and comparing it in real life)

When I called AB, they said this plug would work, so I went to RadioShack and picked them up and they work and fit fine. The end did seem a lil short, but it fits, and works fine. Just sure if MONO would work, but the STEREO one did perfectly.

You could try one of these, just make sure its not GOLD tipped, the lady at AB said gold tips dont work for whatever reasons.
The one I got is "Catalog #: 274-373"

I used the mono type on my 383's before I sold them and they worked fine also.
Dittos on the Cybersyncs from me. They are just fantastic.

The page you linked to has both AC and battery units. Just order the battery receiver. The transmitter is battery powered. And yes, it should work directly with the PC port on your 580EX II. My Cybersyncs arrived with a mono (receiver side) to PC cable included.

thanks dave, im debating whether i should get the elinchrom skyport or the cybersync. are you happy with yours?

Yes, I am quite happy. I was able to step into the Cybersyncs because a year or so back I bought the AB RFT1 units. The upgrade offer from AB was too good to pass up for me. Price wise they are well worth the money in my book, even at full price.

I am not familiar enough with the Skyports to make a real recommendation. I understand there are some benefits to the Skyports if you use Elinchrom lights or if you plan to shoot with mulitple groups of lights. But I'm not even sure if that covers all the Elinchrom lights or just one series.

I'm definitely considering a set of Cybersync's in the next few weeks... Now that you guys have had them 8 or 9 months, are your feelings still the same? Are you still getting the same Range? Any increase in misfires? Does the transmitter still fit snugly?

Let me know what you guys think!

THANKS!

No problems here after more than 6 months.

Although I don't use them much, I bought two CSB's months ago and just got two more.

I work in a small area, so range isn't an issue, just reliability which they are...

Hey Guys, I recently bought the transmitter and 2 x receivers. Just after some advice...

I am running them with 2 x 580ex Flash's so i use the chord with a small jack on one end and what looks like a pc terminal plug on the other? This input does not fit TIGHT on the pc terminal on the flash. It kinda sits there but very loosely. The flash will fire if you apply pressure to where the chord joins to the flash but will then only fire once or twice. As if it looses battery power. Am i doing something totally wrong here. Am i supposed to buy a different chord to put between the chord.

Cheers Guys.

580EX's or 580EX ii's?

If you are using the ii's, you can get screw lock type cables from flashzebra.com I believe.

It it's 580EX's with adapter shoe's you bought, you may want to concider a differant shoe with 1/8 (3.5mm) plug's...

I just got my CST and CSRB last week, haven't had the opportunity to use them, yet, but that will come very soon. So far, though--going on build quality alone--I think I'm gonna be one happy shooter.

Lon is a good guy.

PC connectors in general sux, but the screw lock type are a bit better.

Lon will be helpful and be sure you order the right part if you talk to him...

I use my Sekonic L-358 with the CS's two differant ways.

I either use one of the cables that comes with the CST and plug the CST in to the PC jack on the L-358, or I put the L-358 in that discovery mode.

I would just hold the CST in one hand and click the test button and messure.

Alternatively you could leace the CST on your camera and around your neck and do it that way too.

I do it all the ways above depending on my mood.

However, I find holding the CST in one hand and light meter in the other in that mode which I forget what it's called and it works like a champ...

If you want seamless wireless integration then the answer is no. Pocket Wizards are still the only way to do this with no cables at all without using the cordless auto reset mode and a separate transmitter.

Yes that was my question I guess I have to bite the bullet.

If you're going to use a sync cord your best bet is to use one with a Nikon screw-lock connector and not a standard PC tip. Even when PC connectors are seated properly they can be intermittent and fail miserably at what is always the wrong time. Save yourself the headache and get a cable with the screw-lock.
