My name is Larry. I live in New Brunswick Canada, East coast. I have moved from 35mm Pentax to Nikon, now to Canon (over 35 years). I have a Rebel, kit lens and 24-85, 28-105 and 50 1.8, and Elan 7. Thinking of going for a Tamron 28-75 2.8. Comments regarding the two Canon zooms would be appreciated. Which if any of the two Canon zooms would any of you replace? Does the Tamron 2.8 allow for a brighter viewfinder? Points for me to ponder as we dig out from out third snowstorm in the last seven days. I am glad spring is the next season. (sooner the better)

Hi welcome and for me, I would replace 24-85 and 28-105 IMO.

Hi, welcome to the forum. Enjoy the show :)

I thing that I would recommend is that you have fun with what ya got, cause one thing is sure. When it comes to lens this place has a habbit of turing your $$$ to "L" lenses.

Welcome! :)

Since the Tamron is an f/2.8 lens and the other two have a smaller max. aperture (f/3.5? f/4.5?), the viewfinder will be brighter with the Tamron, but I doubt if it will be so much that you'll really notice it.

Only replace your lenses if you really have a reason for it - if you're not happy with the quality of your photos and if you're sure it is because of the lenses. Don't let people make you crazy about "L" lenses....

Thanks. I should use what I have a while longer. I may have better than I realize.

I agree with Jesper. You've got glass that covers the range. If you're unhappy with the lenses you have that's one thing, but otherwise look for something new - if you need it.

Be prepared though - you will lust for L if you hang around here much. Try to hold off.

Welcome, Larry. Sounds like you're well into it already. I can verify that I have learned a lot at this site and I spend probably too much time here for my own good. :) Enjoy!

Hi Larry, Welcome! I have a tendency to want something new before I really learn how to get the most out of what I already have. That's a serious problem because it holds me back. My equipment gets better and better, but I don't! It sounds to me as if you already have some pretty good stuff there. It's not that I'm against getting something new. Just don't fall into the trap of thinking the new lens will make you a better photographer.

Welcome to the Forum, Larry.

You didn't mention what your doing with the lens that would require a change.

By the way, the road to "L" is paved with good intentions, just "DO" what makes you feel good.

Enjoy the forum, these are good people.
