Sounds like you might of learned through experience :)
I have had a few HD's fail on me - but normally they gave me warning. I've never actually lost anything to a HD crash YET - although I know it will happen one day. They are mechanical devices and any mechanical device WILL fail - it's just a question of when.

Hi Mark.:)
I have all my RAW files on an EHD but I haven't been keeping all the processed jpegs etc. Now I'm burning DVD's of the lot and I may even copy those DVD's and keep the copies in the drawer at work.
I don't actually delete the contents of my CF cards until I have a copy on the main system drive AND on the EHD
You get a lot more extensive than me. I am just backing up the RAWs...I haven't thought about the JPEGs yet.
Chris you signed a confidentiality contract remember.
Well, it's not confidential anymore is it.

Nite, Terri!
don't worry, we'll get you and Frank up here for the balloons!
Tis a date!
Okay everyone, after seeing all your superb photos today, I am a bit shy to put up my attempts. But here goes.....
First one is from the car show.
Second shot is just a quick pic of the town that the motorcycly rally was held in.
Nice cars and bikes, Paula. Car shows are challenging, to say the least! Love the old bike!
g'night fellow non-hacks (howzat Terri ;) )!! I'm going to drag myself up for the balloons tommorow (though it looks like today would have been the best day for it
Zat is good Lisa ;)
Panning with an AT-301 Air Tractor....practice for me for the airshow.
Niiiiiiiiiiiiice!
Love them. I really like this guy concentrating on what he is doing.
I am back from a night hustling video. I scooped a story. No one else caught it on the radio because it was really hush hush on the police radio and fire rescue, which most stringers monitor, were not needed. I heard the officer yelling shots fired and then they did most stuff by phone. Apparently an ex-cop shot his girl friend and police shot him. So far 3 stations have aired it on their morning shows and I expect to get all 5. Leyla did a ride along and was a trooper staying up though is snoring now.
Thanks and congrats on the scoop!
Guess who I saw at the airport yesterday...
*swoon*
TERRI - You know I love your nature shots not only for the content but, the way you bring a piece of your world into mine.
Do you have these on your equipment list?
Oh stop, we'll never tire of seeing them. I have the gallery up to look at when I'm done typing, here.
GA! @ your crash  glad to have you back!
Thank you for your kind comments, Becky, made me kinda mushy :o The feeling is mutual.
*clears throat before Hallmark moment commences*
I just may add my 'pods to my list, ROFL!
PAULA - I meant to suggest that if your daughter insists on tagging along, you lay down the rules that it is OK, but no whining and that you won't be leaving until you're done taking the shots you want to take. It is your trip and you plan to take your time and work on getting your shots...I have to do this with Curt, believe it or not, when I decide to do a nature walk. Sometimes he will bow out due to time constraints. Otherwise he goes along and doesn't exhale loudly when I stop to shoot a weed.
You need to be able to concentrate on your shots and discover what you enjoy shooting, otherwise you're going to become frustrated. Can't be worried about someone else's impatience.
Good words, my friend!
GAAAAAAA! Zombie Spiders!! What next? Zombies are taking over the world, I'm telling you!

Yeah, I bet....maybe they make them garbage for a reason, so you end up buying more things from them....they recalled the 1st battery set because they were too good eh?
I never noticed that until I looked at my battery power...on the IBM ThinkPad i have, you can click on the battery symbol on the taskbar at the bottom, and it shows you different things you can change to make your battery last longer. I usually have my laptop at "pretty bright - to very bright", which just sucks all the power out...good for looking at photos, but simple text things and quick emails? drop it down a couple of notches and you'll more than double the time it takes to die on you.
Dell had to recall some Sony batteries - apparently they were busting into flame while charging....
I didn't know either of those things either. Must be why my crappy photo made it in.
Your shots were great, Kody - they made it in on merit. It's mine that obviously deserved that description as none made it in this time...
I didn't think it was Permie....though that does make more sense that it is her instead of Mark

Thank you for the suggestion Becky. She doesn't always go along, but I let her yesterday as her boyfriend just broke up with her and I hated seeing her sit around the house all depressed. The good part though is that she shared in the driving with me, so I could get a nap.
Understandable, I'd of done the same...nice side benefit too.:D
I think I saw that you've placed an order now - but do you folks have the Vostro line of Dell laptops over there?
No, have not ordered yet. Curt has not had the time to double check all the specs and my brother had been involved in a huge test all week at his job to find out what kind of deal he might be able to get.
Have not heard of the Vostro line.

Great shots Paula. I like the Mustang shot and the old motorcycle. I think its a WW II Harley. Did you happen to look at the tag on the light to see what it is?
Nice Mustang Paula....and a couple of crazy bikes too...Looks like a 41 Indian Scout and a flathead Ford trike...not something you see every day.
Nice job on the scoop, Ace! Congrats on the morning show sweep, too. Will you get in on the Pulitzer?
PAULA: Nice shots! I especially like that shot of the WWII bike. (I agree with Wool, I think it's an Indian. I've always wanted one....)
I did a little looking around this morning and I'm thinking the bike is a Harley WLA that they made for the US Military during WWII. The guages look wrong for an Indian, at least from the pictures of Indian Scouts that I could find...

I did a little looking around this morning and I'm thinking the bike is a Harley WLA that they made for the US Military during WWII. The guages look wrong for an Indian, at least from the pictures of Indian Scouts that I could find...
Did a bunch of looking last night...I wish I had bookmarked the page I finally found it on....but looking at the cylinder heads, the springs on the front tree and the exhaust outlets/frame extensions....it seems to be a 41 Indian Scout Military prototype....the cylinder heads are totally wrong for the Harley WLA...at least any that I found. Guess we need a road trip so we can give it a closer inspection....

We had a good time. It was a fairly short camp trip, and when we got home my parents were here, so we spent the evening and this morning with them.
My camera didn't come out of the bag even once, so sorry about that. No photographic evidence of Marian's campout. Thanks Cat :) sorry to hear you got no pics ..darn rats geez ..lol maybe next time ;)

John, I saw the sign in that plane that said solos were flown from the back seat. I thought of you when we saw these. They were navy planes.
I thought so... From what little I could see of the plane, it looked like a Stearman. When they were used for training new pilots, the student sat in the back seat and the instructor in the front. Solos are flown from the back seat because of weight and balance requirements and because there is a more complete set of instruments and controls in the back seat.

I think you are onto something John....I admit I did not even bother to look last night, but I just did and it looks like a Harley WLC was what was pictured in Paula's shot...though the box (med kit?) is missing from the front wheel on Paula's shot like the shot on Wiki here (left side) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-Davidson#World_War_II
It even has the cylinders looking like Paula's shot. Though, so does the WLA shot here on this page: http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/classics/bike.asp?id=86
The Indian 841 had it's gauges in front of the handle bars, not on the tank like here: http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/classics/bike.asp?id=72

2 over 1 for the sharpness, 3 nice composition...that said all 3 are wall worthy.
Jamie - all three are great but that third one is superb. Very Athena-ish!
Jamie, like the second one of the three overall due to the brighter yellow in the center, though like the 3rd one for its composition.
I like them a lot.
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it.
No, please share. I'd like to know just what disappoints you about these. I think they are wonderful. Are you gonna tell me I'm wrong?
Thanks Wu.
Ah, well, by the time I got here, his deed was cold. Can't whack him after teh fact, or we'll just confuse him in his training.
JAMIE! I really liked your fluers. The first 2 have my vote because I love the point of view.
Thanks and I understand the not whacking of Zane. Maybe one of the other girls will step up the next time you desert us.
Zane, a couple for you from today:
Love the first one Chris.
Dan and I had some fun with water balloons today at 10fps
What a neat idea. *jots that down*
Couple more stingers from today...
Chipped paint, not slurm...

All in all, I have to say it was a good 100mm macro day. :D
Lovely to say the least. But just a little to close. Those scare me. Bumbles don't but yellow jackets do. Call me crazy if you must.

Now how in heck did I manage to get two identical posts, one right after the other? Heather just called it to my attention... Probably ought to go back and delete one...

Zane, a couple for you from today:
Why does Zane get all the fire shots? I sense favoritism, and it isn't pretty. :p

Dan, my whole family has gathered around the computer to see every frame of the TR Olympics.
This last set had us all laughing... and then sad that they were over.
Thank you SO much! (And I'm getting ready to order the book when it's available. ;) )
