View Full Version : Great Canon features that will kick their ASSets

I am tired of walking around with my 5D being mocked by the hoards of Nikon toting photographers, the legions of Olympus users and the packs of Pentax shooters. I want to know your ideas for KILLER Canon features. Features Nikon do not have that will make those turn coats sell their Nikon gear and come back to the soft mother’s hug of Canon love. I want people to say I really wanted to get a Nikon because there is so many used Nikon lenses on the market for such low prices but I just can’t pass up on all of these great Canon features. I want POTN’s store to be sold out of merchandise because of all the new members buy up everything as fast as they can.
The feature that made me think of this is one shot bracket capture using ISO, as many files created simultaneously as you want and there are ISO setting available for your exposure in full half or third stops as the user wants.
Then I thought well OLED screen Nikon doesn’t have (and we may actually get), a mirror lock-up on the lens mount (like the Pentax 6X7) so you can trigger it with your pinkie and use it hand held. All creative zone positions user programmable so those who never use P can use it for what they want. In body IS, people are demanding it so let them have it.
Then I went mad and thought how about in-camera switchable AA filters, you know AA, No-AA IR filters at the touch of a button or menu selection. Now Nikon is back to their rightful place playing catch up.
So what features do we want that they (Nikon) DON'T have? New stuff so the Canon execs who are constantly combing this site for new ideas will go back to their offices, implement and get some nice fat bonuses for being such innovative geniuses.

I want a feature that, when selected, will remotely trip the shutter of any Ni*on, Oly, or Sonny DSLR within a 1/4 mile radius. It would make them go at maximum FPS until their card is full - that would tend to make them switch to Canon!
:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Have you actually been mocked by someone shooting non-Canon gear?
Tell them to work on making some photos and stop looking at your gear. Only the press/media and gear snobs worry about such things. New Canon gear will appear in due time.
And on a side note have you seen someone shooting Olympus gear? Even if so I'd have to laugh if they mocked any bit of Canon kit I was shooting. I mean really 4:3 is cool but come on, really? Micro 4:3, they are going the wrong way!
New FF Canon and APS's will appear in due time.

I'll bet a year's pay that this is not the case...

A choice of JPEG, TIFF, CR2, and DNG in camera. I know, I know, just dreaming. But it would make life a tad easier in post-processing.

Nikon has room to laugh, with some camera and the fact that the 5d is dated, but Olympus with their glorified point and shoot cameras have absolutely no room to mock a 300d much less a 5d.

If the 5D is limiting someone's abilities to capture photos Canon makes a 1Ds.

I meant specifically being "mocked" by another working pro...
It won't openly happen. Now you might get some funny looks for showing up at a sporting event with a 5D but even the pros know that it only takes one frame (even at 3 fps) to win a Pulitzer...

No one has mocked me, believe me they just stand with their mouths open (I won't say why but my brother finds it amusing), for the camera I have. I hardly ever see a camera (SLR being a camera) in the wild and most of those are Canons. Only my friends and family have Nikon's. I saw one guy who said he had a Pentax in his bag though. No one really cares about what camera someone else is using except for a few weenies. This is not the same as being interested in someone gear, people are often curious.
It's just that I live in a delusional fantasy world.
Believe me the 5D is great, there is little I really truly would want, (maybe 16 bit files didn't I mention that in my original post?) I just want canon to read this and see what people want. They claim no one is asking for a mirror lock up button. I think they do read these inter-web things and I want to create a ground swell of demands that users will make of Canon so they will innovate, create and lead in the camera world.
Digital cameras are close to mature but they have a little ways to go before I think they are mature. At that point we will see refinements rather than added features in new models. You know improved shutter life, lower ISO noise, higher ISO sensitivity, quiet operation.

I use a 40D now and don't get mocked. I didn't get mocked when I was using an XT for paying jobs. I do see lots of nice cameras out there, some nikon and some canon. Many people own dSLRs now, and they take them to the casinos and scenic locations here and elsewhere.
I would like to be able to afford a 5D.

The PRINT BUTTON?
It's the best feature of Canon DSLRs that non of the competition have come even close. :D

I really don't see what this thread is about. I can't imagine, for one minute, owners of other cameras mocking your own (and certainly not the media). The only people remotely likely to do so are immature gear snobs - and their opinion doesn't really matter, does it. Why not just take photos with the camera you're happy with and stop worrying about what other people think (they probably don't think anything at all, and are not particularly interested in your camera).

It's the best feature of Canon DSLRs that non of the competition have come even close. :DAnd that is precisely why Canon continues to feature this godly button on its bodies.

I wish my Kodak disposable had a print button.
Are you satisfied with the results you get from
your (LOL) antiquated 5D equipment? If so, why would
"upgrading" to NIKON , SONY or PENTAX be of
any benefit? Just because something is old
does not mean it is not still good. I am old
and I am not as good as I once was, but, I'm
as good once as I ever was. The only thing
wrong with the 5D is it does not have rear view
mirrors and air conditioning.
When Canon announces the replacement for the 5d
all current 5D owners will begin to salivate and upgrade
to the latest model. In a few months the new owners
will start whining when Nikon or one of the others,
announces a new Coal fired model. The same thing
happens in the computer world. The laptop I am using
is less than one year old and it is outdated by at least
two newer versions from Toshiba. It still works fine
and meets all my needs and expectations, your 5D does
the same just like my 40D.
90% of photography is having a subject 10% knowing your equipment and 05% doing it.
A newer model with more bells and whistles will not take better pictures, it will just take
pictures better.

I like this attitude, I just wish that I could convince my consumer brain of it when I begin to salivate over the newest equipment!

I cannot understand anyone changing brand on the strength of a single itteration upgrade - how any of the minor changes can be deemed so essential as to warrant ditching a whole system is beyond me:rolleyes:

Never hand anyone laughing at my cam with my tiny prime attached. Though I did have a couple of friends curse when seeing the clean, razor sharp results. Are you sure it's the camera, maybe they just sense insecurity from miles away ? :p
Problem is cameras are confused with computers or purchased by ex computer geeks turned photographers that pass the same mentality to the new hobby. While my previous 4yo PC won't run Vista, my almost 4yo 20D still runs both "vision 2.0" and "A4 print 1.1" just fine. In the end it's just a light-tight box with a sensor.
Lighten up :)

Must be, it is interesting none the less for me to see what people pick up on though. People do see what concerns them the most and just run with that. Folks really you must all realize that most everyone are not hardly concerned with what anyone else is up to as long as they don't try to hit them up for spare change. What camera/phone/shoe/underwear you use really does not matter to anyone (even if it is an iPhone :) )
I am reading a different internet though it seems. See post 10 already.
Love that duck comic though.
