Starting up college soon, going to major in photography at Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC.
I've got almost everything I need for my photo classes, except a cable release. I've got one for my Canon AE-1, but it might be easier in the long-run to take my K2 so I don't have to worry about winding film, etc. The meter is also easier for me to read since I'm used to the digitals.
Any idea on how I can get a wired or wireless shutter release for my Canon Rebel K2 non-date?
Thanks.

The Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Control (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/12935-REG/Canon_2465A001_RC_1_Remote_Controller.html) should work.

Keep in mind that the RC-1 needs to be able to "see" the IR sensor on the camera. That means that you will likely need to be standing in front of the camera to trip the shutter.

Does the K2 have a sub-miniphone jack for a remote? I know my Rebel 2000 has one. If so, I highly recommend the Phottix Cleon remotes. I got one from forum member Teamspeed a few months ago. Great wireless remote. It also doubles as a wired remote.

If you don't want to spend much, there are quite a few wired remotes on ebay for less than $10 that do the job just fine. i also have one of these from my cameras that I got from the seller below. They ship from the US.

The POTN shop also has an extendable shutter release that gets good reviews from members.

I'd love to be able to get a wired cable release, but the K2 doesn't have a jack for the shutter release. Looks like I'll be getting the wireless one, which I hope is OK for school. I think I'll still take the AE-1 and K2, though.
Thanks for the tips.

Man, that stinks. Can't believe they wouldn't put the jack in the K2. Oh well, at least you can use the RC-1 with it. Maybe you could use a mirror if you need to be behind the camera. ;)

K2 non-date apparently doesn't accept the IR release either. You'd need to rig a bracket to hold a manual release over the shutter button (ISTR having seen some commercially available, but can't recall where) or rely on the self-timer (maybe it has a 2 sec. setting, whether with or without mirror lockup?).

That sucks. I didn't think the non-date model had the option for a wireless. The manual is kind of vague about it, I never know when it is talking about the date or non-date model. And I'm not about to rig up some wiring, it might be more trouble than it is worth. Thought this looks do-able: http://eosdoc.com/manuals/?q=CableRelease
Might be looking for another 35mm SLR, or just rely on my AE-1.

That link you found looks like what I remember seeing. Shouldn't be hard to rig one up with some 3/4" webbing and some Velcro.
