Hi all, I was thinking of getting a battery grip for my 30D. There are lots of copies about with a varied price range. The thing is, are they any good? should I stay well clear of them and buy Genuine Canon? Anyone used one the cheaper versions? and how good are they. Thanks in anticipation. Neil.

i use the canon version for my 40d and couldnt be happier
i know there are man yversions and even mods ot the canon one to give it a small lcd to display stuff, but frankly i just coudnt be bothered
price wise teh battery grip is a little steep bt then again after so much use im absolutely thrown of balance at how odd my cam looks and feels without it
i have it on 24/7
from my experience i can recommend teh canon and guarantee hapinnes ( well maybe not guarantee....but close )

I use the Canon version as well and love it. I had a grip on my XT which, I considered to be necessary even though my hands are small. With the 30D I was just used to the perks of having the grip and purchased it the same time I purchased the body.. I'm not sure about the offbrand grips..

Use the Canon version for the difference in price why take the chance? I purchased mine used and have had it for a year + on my 30D without any issues.

The grip is a person preference for sure. I have one and have found it to be off the camera more than it is on. So for me the jury is still out. If I bought mine full price, I would have been very diasppointed. I got a used one on the forum for 120 so..I can always resell it later.

I just got the Canon grip for my 40D, and I'm very pleased with it. You might pay less with third party brands, but the genuine Canon not only gives you a peace of mind but it also retains the resale value.
