Hi,
I just bought a Canon 430DX Speedlite and am trying to use it for the first time.

It is stuck in this mode.

ETTL M ZOOM 14mm

I took the batteries out for a long time and it switched back to fully automatic but then when I used it a few time, it switched back on its own to the above.

I tried pushing the zoom button and following the instructions, but can't even change it manually.

We are traveling right now a long ways from any type of photo store---Baja, Mexico.

Is it me, or do I have a lemon? Using it on a 40D.

Thanks
Diand

Make sure the slide out panels at the top of the flash are pushed all the way in.

I agree. It senses the wide angle panel being out.

If it isn't, try pulling it out and pushing it back in a couple of times. Maybe something is stuck in the sensor switch in there?

I will look at that---I had been playing with that panel and maybe, just maybe I did not push it in.

THANKS --- I am rather new at this, and learning. If that is not the problem, I will be back. I really appreciate both of you taking the time to respond.

Diane

It was the slide out panel! Thanks, glad it was so simple and I don't have to take it back

Thanks again
