Hi Gary, welcome to the forum.

Elements 6 is a great program for a beginner. It's very powerful, and will do everything you need, and more. I wouldn't shell out for the full-blown version of Photoshop for a while yet - you simply won't get value out of it.

Gary,
I fully agree with Damo. I started using Photoshop Elements and moved up as my skills and my camera advanced. PSE2 was where I started, and I know for a fact that Elements has a nice Raw reader built into it. So have fun with PSE and show us your work. Also, learning White Balance is an essential key to making quality photos with Digital Cameras!

Another option (free) would be The Gimp (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=464298)...

Thanks

And don't forget the little disc that came with your camera. There's DPP, Raw processing software on it.

This and Photoshop Elements should be everything you need for now. Later you can upgrade to Photoshop for a special price.
