I was trying out the Sigma 50/500 Big Mama on ducks today. I have been using this lens for the past little while, as I ponder what to do for some better glass of my own . . . at any rate I liked this one (duck) but perhaps it is a little soft or I can't hold still. Most likely the latter. Anyone else out there use this Sigma lens? And or have experience with same?

The board sure seems busy of late . . .

Nice shot but she does look mad.

We seem to have migrated away from the infamous duck posts to alot of elk. Thanks for bringing us back to our roots.

Yep, it's nice to see a duck again.

She certainly looks quite upset though. You didn't try to kiss her, did you? :-)

That's one mean looking duck.

What was the focal length you shot there with your Bigma? Anything over 300mm and you'd probably need a tripod/monopod to get sharper than that. Send a PM to rockyc2. He posts a lot of shots with that lens.

I agree very nice picure but the duck looks peeved, did you get a signed
release? :D

LOL, no release on the 'critters' but I did ask and a carrot 'tween' clenched teeth does nothing for the animals in my neck of the woods . . . f/length is most likely 500. It is a center crop for posting to rid most of the surrounding open water.

I think the eyes/head remind me a little of "Daffy Duck" when he is peeved.

I got the same image when I first saw it :-). Nice picture.

Maybe he's not impressed with the Quackarazzi :-) :-) (Is that the correct term for duck photographers ?)

Nice looking Drake Ringneck. I've been thinking of getting the BigMa, but I might get a prime first.

Either that or he saw the Bigma extended out to 500mm and thought it was Wile E. Coyote firing a bazooka at him.

That's a really great result for a hand held shot at 500mm.

Nice pic but the lighting is a bit dull to me.

LOL, regarding the lighting . . . there is none. We have not seen the sun in over a week now. Our little valley is in an inversion so we have fog 24/7 it seems. Even looking at the sun, or where it might be . . . you can't see even a faint ring of it. So although I don't get shadows . . . I don't get much light either. The BigMama does not do very well in these conditions I am afraid. Hunts a lot and the focus is hard to achieve, or it could be me still getting used to it. I am not sure as of yet, never having had it out on what you folks would call a 'good' day.

I always say "Dang the weather, full speed ahead" in regards to shooting. Unless it is a down pour of rain or a hard snow . . . I try to shoot something every day. Lighting won't be perfect, but I most likely won't get this look in the eyes again either.

My thanks to you folks for the kind response to my 'Duck' picture, lol.
