According to my usual source (http://www.digideep.com (http://www.digideep.com/)) the only casing for this camera is the canon one (WP-DC 12).

I've not got this camera myself, but I have a similar canon casing for my IXUS and it works well.

Hope that is of some help.

The Canon housings are great. I have several of them and have used them for many years.

Easy to maintain, easy to use, good value for money, imho.

Have fun!

I think the actual casing for the A710is is the Canon WP-DC6 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-WP-DC6-Waterproof-Case-PowerShot/dp/B000JKA3IA

Not exactly cheap but I believe you can get some fantastic photos underwater with it...as long as you're not going too deep when a stronger flash will be required.

I believe there are third party casings as well, which are much cheaper...but personally, I woudn't take the risk!

The Canon casing is certainly one I am looking at for my A710 as we're travelling to the Maldives in December...and I cannot miss the the opportunity to get some pictures while snorkelling!!!

The other option, although a little more expensive, is just to get one of the Olympus cameras which are waterproof to about 10 metres: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Olympus-Mju-1030SW-Digital-Camera/dp/B0012ESMHG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1219217835&sr=8-7

I'm debating whether this might just be the easist solution.

FWIW I see cameras underwater every day. I have a wide range of them myself. The more I use the Olys, the less I like them. Slow to focus, often miss focus, slow to write, anything more than ISO 100 just sucks. They are sexy, though.

Bang for buck - Canon A series and a Canon housing hands down.

Learn to use the manual white balance for best results.

Get close - learn where your minimum focus distance is and use it...beyond that distance the onboard flash won't do much more than create backscatter. Forget about the zoom mostly: your minimum focus distance increases and distance underwater is the enemy & all it does in increase the size of the particles between your lens and your subject.

I maintain a great thread here (http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/underwater-photography/156914-everything-photo-dslr-compacts-tips-techniques-rebates-deals-look-here-first.html) that has all sorts of tips and tricks plus links to various models with examples and discussions. It's not comprehensive, but there's a ton of good info in there.

You can also PM me for any help or questions you might have re shooting underwater and I'll try to help!

I know that this is not my thread, but that info is great (especially when it comes from an experienced diver) - thanks kja!;)... I've bookmarked it.

Yes, the quality of the Olympus was my main worry. I love my A710 and what it can do (for a P&S) and would prefer to take it for the underwater shots...it's just the relative cost of the housing in relation to the cost of the camera!! But I guess it's worth it if the Olympus is just crap in terms of performance and quality!

Another recommendation for canon housings here... I have one for my A640 and was pleased with the results of my first attempts (thanks also to KJAs advice in a previous thread)

Apologies for the wrong information in the first repsonse, must have had a brain burp. Thanks to pridash for the correction.

Actually, I think I made the mistake! I thought tcphotodesign had the A710...but he's got the A720 !

...so apologies!
