View Full Version : EXIF Data and Elements 2.0 v PSP 8

I've been using Breeze Browser to batch rename my files from my card reader.
I find it very useful and quick when browsing many images, and being able to see all EXIF data is a benefit as I experiment my way through the learning process.
At present I use PSP 8 for my post processing which is very little - mainly cropping. As I have used this extensively, it suits my needs for the little post processing I do. However, I have just recently, just rotated a few images in PSP, and when viewing the EXIF data again in Breeze browser, there appears to be a lot of data missing.
My questions are these :

Has PSP "messed" with the data ?
Will Elements 2.0 (supplied with 300d) allow me to do minimal post processing and retain the EXIF data?
I'd further appreciate the views of any experienced photographers out there, as to the pro's and cons of Elements v PSP.
(I am on the verge of converting to Elements - just need that convincing "push" in the right direction)

All help and advice will be gratefully received.

Cheers in advance.

I can't comment on PSP but I did use Elements 2.0 that came with my 10D for a period of time before switching to PSCS. I never had any issues with the exif going AWOL using elements.

Well, I've done a little experiment here, and can confirm that Elements 2.0 does alter the amount, if not the accuracy of the EXIF data stored against an image.
I exported the data (using Breeze Browser) prior to simply rotating the image in Elements, then exported the data again.
As you can hopefully see from the two text files attached, several items have been removed from the data.

Can anyone offer a logical explaination for this ?
Would the same experiment herald the same results if using the full blown version of PS - can someone try it out ?

Don't get me wrong, it ain't a problem for me - but am now just very curious as to whether the data can be retained.

Once again, all help is appreciated.
