Took them this weekend, learning to know the 17-40.
Please tell me what you think of them

The first one is the best, though it could use some light. The second one doesn't do anything for me. While the first shows balance in composition the second one nither captures the sky nor the trees well.

I like the first one as well, however I always throught you were supposed to avoid lines that bisect a picture?? (horizon)
shrug.

I thought I saw these somewhere else? NTL they are still good. I love the yellow color . . . very nice capture.

There is good colour and potential in this scene. I agree about the bisecting of the picture. Often we see a dramatic sky and make a feature of that. In you case, the 'drama' was in the glow and texture of the grass. Perhaps you could have extended that aspect further up the scene and limited and darkened the sky. Perhaps a slight change of angle to avoid the distraction at the edges.
Worth stopping for.

I think they are good material to work with. I'd just interperet them differently. Such as below maybe. Just play with them in photoshop.

Thank you for your reply and PS work.
I like to take the picture right on the spot, as with a film camera. I dont like to take photos with the thought of I will fix my incompetence at home.
I often think some photos on this forum could have been much better if they were not made so unrealistic by PS.

Hey loebas, that's not really fair. Personally I think that johnellisphotography greatly imroved the composition. Perhaps the contrast enhancement in the sky is a bit too much, but too me it suddenly became a photograph to what and keep watching. But let's not discuss taste, because the world is so interesting since tastes differ :-)
By the way, I agree with you that you should think about the picture when you take it, but to me that doesn't exclude improving it when I am back home.
johnellisphotography, I tried to recreate your result (just to learn), but couldn't get the sky as contrasty as you did. What was your trick?

I didn't meant to criticise the PS work. I was very glad and pleased by the fact that he did the improvement. Just wanted to point out what my motivation for taking photos is.
