I have been told by many people that the Canon i9900 is like the best photo printer for personal use. The price of the actual printer is a little steep from what im used to (699 canadian) where the most expensive printer i have bought in the past was 300 bucks CAD. However I checked the prices of ink and there only 12 to 15 bucks per catridge which isn't bad, compared to paying 40 bucks for my other cartrisges, which again i am used to Dual catridge systems rather then octa cartridge system, so its hard to realize the quality to price ratio. So for those who have this printer I got some questions before I buy it.
1) How many prints do you get before you have to replace ink (preferably 4x6's but tell me your other observations)
2) Does it cost similar to a lab doing it. What is the cents per print value?

Lots and lots of 4x6.........you'll realize that certain ink tanks depletes faster than others (especially photo cyan and photo magenta).......so have 'em in stock. I find the prints from my i9900 more pleasing with better details then the same photos printed from a lab (adorama).
If you print mostly 4x6, why not purchase the Pixma i8500??........
In any case, 8 invidividual inktanks is cheaper in the long run than 2 or 4 or 6.
Go get it, you won't be sorry.

Well I already have a small format printer for my 4x6's, its a Kodak one which does quite a good job and is almost comparible to my local lab (walmart lol). I want to buy a larger format printer because for school projects and some times i print out larger letter sized photo's and stuff, and then me and my folks do a bunch of 4x6 quite often. With the kodak, each cartridge only lasts 40 to 50 4x6 prints, so its costing me quite a lot of money per print which i do not like, so i was looking for a lil more bang and a lil less buck in my new printer. Which is why i wanna know how much 4x6's people are getting off with the i9900. And like u said 8, is suposedly cheaper in the long term which is what im aiming for.

Amusing is when you are getting ready to answer the question and someone else already has by using your own previous post.
Thanks Dale,

The Canon i9900 printer is an excellent printer and I would recommend it to anyone. I got mine for Christmas and have printed many pictures and thus had to replace the photo cyan and photo magenta.
