Hell to all of you

I am Egyptian and I have a brother living in the USA , 6 weeks ago I made him order me the Canon SD850IS along with a video card from Amazon.com and he recieved the shipment 2 days after placing the order

The camera came in the original box but he told me that the box is easily opened with no adhesive tapes to guarantee unopened package

Then he left it in its original box till he came to Egypt 2 weeks ago and I started using the cam

First observation :

The first picture I took with it was named : IMG_0028.JPG !!!!!

He was using his SD750 cam first with the same SD card that he gave me with my SD850 and he took 27 shots precisely , so is that normal numbering scheme ? or my SD850IS was used before and Amazon sent him an Open Box ?!!!!

Shouldn't numbering be handled by the camera itself or am I wrong and it is related to the SD card ?

Now here is the big problem :

The SD850IS has 2-4 stuch pixels in the CCD

Here is a sample :

I want to return it to Amazon as it is defective but don't know about items returned after the 30 days period and whether they would replace it with the same model (that is what I want , I don't want refund) and would they handle the shipping fees

My brother will return to the USA on September 24th so that will make it about 12 weeks

I can sell it here in Egypt but it is not guaranteed and I can't live with these stuck pixels

No, Canon doesn't seal the box. Some of the pieces (cables, paperwork, batteries) are in sealed packets inside however.

The file numbering will pick up a higher number from a card, so that's why you saw IMG_0028.JPG.

What was the exposure for that sample? I doubt you'll get Canon to accept that 4 pixels out of 8 million is a problem, especially on a longish underexposed shot. I'd b e surprised if you could notice them in anything up to an 8x10 at normal viewing distances.

I leave the camera at Auto but in the Manual Mode the Exposure is set to 0 , setting it to either +1/3 , 2/3 or -1/3 , 2/3 give the same results

I counted 5 stuck "white pixels" and 1 red and one blue

I have a 22" LCD monitor and even without zooming , the white dot in the center is visible !

I really can't understand , isn't it defective in this case ?

A new camera should not have these defects out of the box

I have another question : what are the perfect settings that could eleminate or at least "mask" these pixels ?

What does the EXIF say the exposure time was? You are guaranteed hot spots with exposures of 1 sec. or more; they're not uncommon at 1/15 sec. in dark areas. And you're reporting 1 pixel of every (now) 1.15 million. That's 0.0000875% failed pixels. If you check, even LCD monitor makers won't guarantee replacement for fewer than around 10 failed pixels on their sub-megapixel screens.
