Took these of my friend about 2 weeks ago to try out my ebay slaves and Vivitar 285s. Picture inspired by "Jay Cagney" on www.snowboardperception.com

Flash looks like it could be a little closer for more of the man lit up more these are a little to dark

you need another flash on the other side of him, basically you have a rim light but thats all.

Thanks for the comments guys. I had 2 flashes for this shot, one on each side of him hitting him at about a 45 degree angle. I didn't intend for him to be fully lit up, I really just wanted the shot to be just his silhouette with the rest of the picture totally dark.

i think thats what makes the pic that much better.

i dnno it looks good with only some parts lit.

not bad for the first time. you defiantly need a rim light. also try and avoid shots with an arm across the face, #1 is good but #2 his arm is covering half his face. also the rail is taking away from the subject try to photoshop the rail darker so its not blown out. hope this helps good job for the first time.
