Hi Folks:
Since most of us are NOT using film much any longer, I'd like to know if when you bill, do you charge a "digital capture fee" in lieu of film, processing & polaroid. If you do, how would you justify this charge to a client??? After all, w/ digital, we're not buying or processing any film. And we already charge our shooting fee. Interesting question huh?

Just curious & thanks for your responses.

One way is digital capture fee = frames taken / expected camera life * camera price

Eg for a wedding with a 40D. 1000 / 100000 * 2000 = $20

Hardly seems worth charging it. Maybe it covers the cost of your time to cull and process the images as well.

I don't charged separately for it. When I quote a job, I factor in my time for post processing. If I were to list it separately I would call it "Post processing fee"

I usually charge a possessing/editing fee. I think for future jobs, I may just include it in the processing fee. That way the client doesn't have to ask "what's that charge for?" It seems kinda chincy to say that the charge is for the wear & tear on you equipt.

just include it in your processing fee
