I was told recently that you should celebrate your first baby's birthday every month for the first year!! Oops.........but maybe the fact that I've taken about 10000 pics in the first 10 months makes up for lack of birthday celebration. Here are a few from today and a few days ago.........I just got my 85f1.8 and it's a pretty decent chunk of glass. I have to admit that I enjoy all the lenses that I now own; even the kit lens!! Enjoy the photos..........I know I am enjoying taking them and even more, enjoying the time shared with my daughter. (does she think that I have a camera permanently attached to my face??);)

What a gorgous baby...looks like a little lady in that sweater with the buttons! Especially the last one...it's like she's thinking I know who you are and what youre doing, you're taking my picture because I am beautiful! ....not a vacant googoo gaagaa look alot of babies have! :) She's perhaps one of those "old souls". She is very much aware.

Thanks for the nice comments! Yes, I definitely think she is aware of the camera. Actually, as I was taking these shots, she crawled over, stood up on my lap and tried to get at the camera!! A sign of things to come...........

Thanks Bruce! I find that I am cropping to the square format more and more lately.....just seems to add something to a head shot!

I can relate to that. When I shot my Bronica SQa which was a 6x6 medium format, I had to choose all my comps for square unless I was shooting with a crop in mind, and some shots just work better square. :D

Adorable pictures and child! I've thought about the 85 1.8 lens. How close were you to her when you took these photos? I've recently gotten a digital rebel, but with my 35mm, I like to use around 100mm for children's photos and portraits as they forget I'm there and I can get candid shots. I'm thinking with that 1.6 thing, this may be the same distance. I don't have a fixed focal lens, so I'm not too sure about how it works and whether I'd really like it, but these pictures are a great advertisement for it.

Excellent as always. She is growing fast!
It's good to hear that you are enjoying taking pictures of her more and more.
Most parents start out photographing and videotaping their newborns with a vengance. But, after a few months they put the cameras in the closet to collect dust.
The 85F1.8 is definately a keeper. The build and image quality is superb, and the price is very decent. I think it may actually be the fastest focusing lens I own.

Thanks for the praise!! Yes, the 85f1.8 is pretty fast focusing..........I like it a lot. But today I got out the ole' 135F2 and it just has this feel about it, not to mention the optics. Has got to be my favourite lens for right now..........

Thanks for the comments cmM, indpndnt, jgbeam......

As far as the question to how far away from Julia I was, with the 100f2.8 I think I was about 1.5 metres away (I think that's about 4 feet or so.........)

Did you diffuse your flash in some way to keep from washing her out? (Sorry, I'm asking so many details, but I love the effects.)

Schmoelzel is a king of the fill-flash :)
Without a doubt, the 135F2L is my favourite lens, but when I pick up the 85F1.8 and think about how much it cost, I just can't help but love it too.

Cute! I'm in the same boat, my 3 year old and new 2 month old are getting plenty of camera time. I too am reaching 1000/month and they say you slow down a little the second kid...that may be true put only partially because I think I'm getting a higher percentage of keepers then I was when I first started.

Hey, I don't feel like a king!! I actually don't know too much about flash photography! I often use fill-flash because it adds a more realistic light on the subject...........but I also like shooting with no flash because the weight of the camera with a heavy lens and flash attached is often too uncomfortable. Someone had asked if I diffused the flash.......I only have a cheap 20 dollar Stofen Omnibounce attached to the 420EX that I use.....

Thanks again for the nice comments!
