I heard of that Canon will release 50D and 5D MKII in Sep.
50D: 1220 megapixel, 3" OLED, ISO 100~3200. Probably 1299 US
5D MKII: 1670 megapixel, 3" OLED, ISO: 50~6400.
Also, Canon will introduce 24~70 F2.8 IS version, and 18~200 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 IS
Cannot wait now. :)

Source?
Besides which, since all of the above is made out of "Unobtanium" this belongs in "Rumors."

Canon wont break their 18 month gap between versions on the 50D. They have had it since the 10D and the 40D isnt even a year old yet. Sorry, but you'll be waiting till 09.

1670 megapixels!! Wow, that would be enormous! :D
Seriously though, the 5D Mark II is one of the most debated cameras around. Everything is speculation.

Photokina = new 5D and new 1DMkIV.
I'm surprised that no one is talking about the new 1D. It's a couple months early, but it's the next one due.

I think there should be a decimal point in those megapixel numbers. hehe

Actually if im not mistaken the new canon 18-200 is a 3.5-5.6, not 3.5-6.3?
I will be sticking with my XTI till i can get my hands on the 50D, i totally wished it has a flip-out screen and as low as 50iso

You state this as absolute fact, so I'd like to know who your source inside Canon is... ;)
My own, completely uneducated, not-in-the-know guess is that Canon will release a 50D (or at least something that more directly competes with the Nikon D300) in the next few weeks.

I can see the 5D MkII with Digi_IV 16 bit and the 1dMk IV with dual Digi_IV 16 bit 24 MP...plus this plus that. If they are 16 bit...they will kill any or any competition within the solar system...for now...:)

haha maybe nikon and canon have sign an underground agreement. they wont do that
even canon have quad digi 24bit

just time does matter
After all is all about tech

They have gone 18 months between the 10, 20, 30 and 40D....why would they put out a 50D when the 40D isnt even a year old yet? Makes no sense. 2009 :)

did you mean pixels not mega-pixels? if so those may be pretty close (JK). I too keep seeing people guess at the OLED screen. that would be awesome!
as far as that 18-200 3.5-6.3 I would Highly doubt it. because Canon cameras under the 1d series aren't rated to AF over 5.6 which would mean that this lens would only be good on a 1D which it would be incompatable with as and EF-s lens.
oh yeah and the timing... I think the guesses of getting a new 1D4 and a 5D2 are much more probable then getting a new xxD until '09.
...just my thoughts, nothing substantiated :)

Well, it has been done... the lens just communicates a different aperture... 5.6 instead of 6.3, and the AF will work.

I dont want to pay another $300 for an OLED screen... I rather see actual features and improvements that lets me GET The shot... not help me chimp the next one :S

I also don't believe the 50D is coming out soon. Why would Canon change the 18 month cycle to 12 month for the 40D? It just doesn't make sense. What's next, 3 month cycle? It's all getting crazier and crazier in my opinion! If they keep that up, cameras will be like computers with them being out of date on announcement day!
I think any change to the announcement cycle will hurt Canon's bottom line as people won't be so inclined to get the next model if they come out so soon after the last one. But, that's just my very humble opinion!

I also think it makes more sense to wait a bit and make a real upgrade instead of something that reminds us of 20D -> 30D.

That's for sure! I wouldn't mind, I guess, if they made so few changes to the 40D and called it a 50D. I would really be po'ed if they made some significant changes and called it a 50D. I would feel violated, I guess.

Agreed, unless they wait the full 18months, then it will be expected. I know my camera is a piece of technology... and technology advances and goes obsolete, but when I bought it I expected it to be top of it's series for a year and a half, not only a year. It really doesn't make a big difference though because it still takes better pictures then I do!

Excellent point about the camera's abilities. I've always said that the camera is much better than me.
But, I do like new toys and buy them because they're new toys. If I don't buy new and better camera equipment then what will I do with my money, buy silly things like Xbox 360 games? Wait, I do that too!!!
Truth is, I've been saving for about a year for a 5D replacement! I have spent some of that savings on some guns so I don't have as much as I could have but hopefully enough! So, Canon, don't screw this 5D replacement thing up by making it too much, you hear!!!;)

LOL well... I don't have any money set aside for the 5DII but I am thinking of starting a fund for the 5DIII I'm thinking about $50/mo. will get me PLENTY by the time it comes out in 6+ years :D
Yeah, I know that my camera is not living to it's full potential, however I am quickly catching up to it :) I outgrew my last one the S3IS (which was my first digital) in about 1 year of owning it :) I'm hoping to get a good 3 years on this 40D though.

The 40D dropped under the $900 mark online a while ago, and it's been staying there since. I still think it's a sign of an update coming soon for their mid-range dSLR to be that inexpensive, especially considering its features and functions.

Where is this 18 month cycle documented? Is it on the Canon website? I couldn't seem to find it anywhere.
To think that a company like this would adhere to the same development and production schedule over the life of the company just isn't reality. I would not be surprised at all to hear the 50D be announced any day now. Canon is getting it's butt kicked at the moment, they have to step it up and soon if they would like to regain their #1 position in the marketplace. And I have a feeling they would like exactly that.

check it out. Seem to be true now.
For 50D, I took the pics from a Taiwan website. It is quite strange for Canon to replace 40D at this moment.

What difference does it really make AFTER you take the shot? Most of the work I do doesn't really give me a second chance, unless I am in the studio... and if you work with something that gives you a second chance, you might as well shoot a few more takes just to be safe anyway.
The point I was making is, that I would prefer a better sensor, a chip that allows for more accurate and faster AF, a larger viewfinder perhaps so that I could make sure that I take in focus shots the first time around and not the third or 4th shot.

The difference is that you can review your photo on a much larger, sharper, more color accurate screen especially when your viewfinder does not show you 100% of your image. When you shoot while holding the camera in portrait position and then try to review a shot not much bigger than a stamp, you do appreciate a better and bigger screen. Not to mention what can happen during the mirror blackout of the viewfinder when you truley take a photo. I like being able to review my images so I can decide if I need to delete and re-photo.
