I took this hand held one morning in the fall

How fast of a shutter speed would one need to freaze movement of the moon and for that matter our planet? Also my guess is that you use spot metering as to not over expose the moon? I wish it was a clear night I want to try my luck with moon shots.

Actually I waited until the sky was light enough that the moon wasn't as bright in the sky. But I just stuck my 75-300mm lens on and went out and just played around with shutter speeds-no spot metering.
