View Full Version : Bad communication between EOS 1D mk and G5 using Firewire

I am having an intermittent problem connecting my EOS 1D mk2 to a G5 PowerMac and a G4 Powerbook -- both running OSX 10.3.7

What happens is this:

Connect Camera as per instruction.
Open EOS Viewer Utility (latest version -- updated and reinstalled several times)

EOS Viewer Utility shows the Mk2 as a volume indicating that communication is taking place.

If: the icon in the list of volumes is clicked
or: Camera settting is activated
or: The capture utility is activity

A message is received: "No communication with camera check cables etc etc."

Occasionally by trying various different combinations of connections with the G5 and various sequences in the process a connection is made that stays good for the whole session.

This appears to be completely random -- no observable pattern that I can see.

It can also occur without physically touching the cable in any way indicating that a faulty cable is unlikely.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Yeah Scott,

I had exactly the same problem on my Dual 2Ghz G5 running 10.3.7. It only started happening once I upgraded the EOS viewer from the packaged 1.0.1 version that came on the camera CD up to version 1.2.1 downloaded from the Canon site.

I deleted EOS viewer from the Canon Utilities folder and reinstalled the packaged CD version with no problems, so I think there may be a bug in the software update (EOS 1.2.1) as opposed to your camera, cable or OS X update

If you connect the camera and then turn it on before starting EVU, you will get that message.

If you connect the camera, open EVU first and then turn on camera, it works fine.
