I'm looking to to purchase a lens with a reach in the range of 75/80 up to 400/500. I can't afford "L" glass, unfortunately, so what would you recommend? I'll be buying used, hopefully in the $300-$600 range. I've read some about Sigmas, Tokinas, and Tamrons, but I'd like to hear from those of you who have these lenses what you think of them. I've got a 20D. My preferred range would be something like 100-400--I need the longer reach for wildlife and moon shots. What do you think of the Canon EF 75-300 IS USM? My brother likes it with his Dreb, but I've read at least one post about a problem with it and the 20D. What about the Sigma 135-400 f/4.5-5.6 APO? The Tokina 80-400 (reviews are very mixed on that one)?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

How about the 70 - 200 f4L and a 1.4 extender?
