View Full Version : using different printer profiles

I have two printers - Epson 950 and 2100 (they both have different numbers in USA but I know the 2100 is 2200). I use my 950 with cheapo inks for run of the mill stuff and the 2100 with Epson inks which I'm sure must be made of the most exotic materials because I reckon I could get paper gold plated for a similar price!

I can now make profiles for my printers including different ones for media/ink combination. So far I have just made one and the software at the end of it asked to set is as the default profile. I notice that it is buried in a huge list of profiles deposited on my hard drive by PS and Capture One and the like. Now for the question:-

Once I have a collection of profiles for my diferent printer/media/ink combinations, how do I chose different ones?

Many thanks

Martin

In Photoshop CS, when you're going to print an image, choose File / Print with Preview.

In the dialog that opens, make sure "Show More Options" is checked. Select "Color Management" from the drop down box. You'll see two frames, "Source Space" and "Print Space".

In "Source Space", select the "Document" radio button.
In "Print Space", select the appropriate profile for your printer / media / ink combination.

This explains it with images of the dialog: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7_print/ps7_print_mac.htm

Where you put the *.icc or *.icm files depends on your operating system; in Windows XP, they should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color

Note: When you let Photoshop manage the colour when printing, you should make sure that colour management is switched off in your printer driver (set it to "No Adjustment" or similar in the printer properties dialog).

Many thanks Jesper.

I'm now off to post another profile related question....

Hope to see you there!
