which tripod for 10D+70-200

I went on a shoot today and was let down for the last time by a completely ****ty old manfrotto tripod. What would you guys say is a combo good and solid enough to hold my 10D and 24-70 attached ... sideways (portrait) that is quite a weight. I would probably choose a ball head for convenience and i shoot alot of people
